Adam Wingard and his long-standing writing partner Simon Barrett's new film Onslaught is a return to their indie roots back in the day when they made VHS 2, You're Next, and The Guest. WB tried to bury this movie for a tax write-off. Fans and the director raised their voices and now Coyote vs. Acme has been unleashed! Was the rescue worth it?

Live-action Hentai Alien Psychosexual Thriller is….a choice.

Watch Skip Plus is BACK! WillDaBeast is back from his Vegas Birthday jaunt, and the Boyz review their first streamer: the Shudder/AMC+ exclusive Touch Me. The Addison Heimann directed psychosexual thriller debuted January 2025 at Sundance. With its attractive cast (Olivia Taylor Dudley, a fiery Jordan Garvaris, a studly and nude Lou Taylor Pucci) and impressive cinematography, could the film’s abuse and trauma mixed with Adult Swim humor and weirdo non-sequitors and tentacle sex (yes….Hentai-esque tentacle sex) have been too much for distributors? There may actually be a reason this was dumped on streaming.

Hokum Review | Caveat & Oddity Director Damian McCarthy Swings Big with Adam Scott

Irish folklore horror is having a moment — and Hokum (2026), the latest from writer-director Damian McCarthy (Caveat, Oddity), might be its most ambitious entry yet. Adam Scott (Severance, Parks and Rec, Krampus, Step Brothers) plays an author so deeply unlikable you'll be rooting against him, but McCarthy keeps pulling you into his strange, slow-burning world anyway. Think The Shining, 1408, What Lies Beneath, and Creepshow blended with ancient Irish mythology and a very weird goat. Austin Amelio (The Walking Dead) also appears in a memorable supporting role. Cupcake crushes on this sexy dude.

Jose (Cupcake) and Mike (WillDaBeast) debate whether McCarthy's supernatural stew holds together and whether this completes what just might be an Irish folklore horror trilogy. Verdicts incoming.

We Saw Mother Mary and Oh My God — Spoiler-Free Review

We were supposed to review another film this week, one that also featured a pop star with a title starting with "M". Then A24 dropped Mother Mary — and honestly? Best pivot we've ever made!

David Lowery's Mother Mary stars Anne Hathaway as a pop star on the cusp of her comeback, pulled back into the orbit of her estranged best friend and former costume designer, played by Michaela Coel. What sounds like a celebrity drama slowly reveals itself as something far more raw, strange, and beautiful. If you loved Black Swan, Portrait of a Lady on Fire, or anything in A24's weirder corner of their catalog, this one is for you.

Jose and Mike share their spoiler-free takes with just genuine enthusiasm and a whole lot of feelings about Anne Hathaway, Michaela Coel, the music (by FKA Twigs, Charli XCX, and Jack Antonoff, and that FKA Twigs sequence. Verdicts are in, and let's just say we didn't leave disappointed.

SPOILER'D: Bob Odenkirk Fights a Town & Lee Cronin Fights His Own Script

No spoiler-free zone here — we're going all the way in. Jose and Mike break down two of 2026's most surprising genre entries back to back.

First up: Ben Wheatley's Normal, where Bob Odenkirk rolls into a small town as an interim sheriff and slowly realizes every single person around him is armed, paid off, and protecting a Yakuza treasure vault. We talk about what makes this feel like a grounded, gorier version of Nobody and how Wheatley's genre-blending sensibility makes Normal feel like the neo-noir Western we didn't know we needed.

Then we pivot to Lee Cronin's The Mummy, the divisive body horror family drama that's also an exorcism film that's also a Sam Raimi Evil Dead riff that's also a revenge movie. We love Cronin, and there's real craft here, but we dig into why the film's identity crisis keeps it from landing as hard as it could. From the Nazmaranian demon mythology to the dentures scene to that wild epilogue, nothing is off limits.
