Bram is a peddler. Every evening he walks the road at dusk with his old horse, Moss, selling ribbons and tea and small useful things to whatever village comes next. Tonight the village is Hanover, and at the forge there hangs a horseshoe — old, dark, nothing special to look at — except for the small quiet magic it's been holding onto for years.
