What hidden LGBTQIA+ stories lie within Ireland’s national collections?
In this episode, Dr El Reid-Buckley (UCD School of Computer Science) speaks with Ruadhán Ó Críodáin, Executive Director of ShoutOut, about the creation of the LGBTQIA+ tour at the National Museum of Ireland, Collins Barracks. Together they explore the often overlooked histories of queer life in Ireland, the importance of representation in museums, and how cultural institutions can help bring these stories into the public eye.
Dr Reid-Buckley also shares some of their favourite objects from the museum’s collection and the powerful histories behind them.

To close out Shout Out Listen In for 2025, volunteer Jenny (she/her) sat down with the Shout Out team for a special, festive episode.

In a time when there is a lot of discrimination and pushback towards the LGBTQ+ community, organisations such as Shout Out are vital, and Jenny wanted to highlight the positive and inspiring personalities of the incredible team who work tirelessly at Shout Out.

During Asexual Awareness Week, ShoutOut volunteer Jenny met with Ashley and Sabine from Outhouse's Ace & Aro Group, and Aiden who is the Events Chair, with RCSI's student Pride Society.

They discussed how they learned about asexuality, representations of asexuality in the media, finding community with other asexual and aromantic people, and asexual people's experiences with healthcare.

On the 15th of April 2025, the UK Supreme Court ruled that the legal definition of a woman is based on biological sex, which has a direct effect on the trans community, in particular trans women.

In this episode Ruadhán discusses the meaning of this ruling and the effects it has on the trans community.

Executive Director Ruadhán Ó Críodáin sits down with writers Soula Emmanuel and Ezra Maloney as they share their experiences writing literature and theatre from the trans perspective.

Soula Emmanuel was born in Dublin to an Irish mother and a Greek father. She studied at universities in Ireland and Sweden, emerging with a master's in demography. Her debut novel, Wild Geese, was published in 2023. In 2024, it was shortlisted for a Lambda Literary Award in the Transgender Fiction category. It was also shortlisted for the 2024 Gordon Bowker Volcano Prize at the UK Society of Authors Awards. She currently lives on Ireland's east coast.

Ezra Maloney (he/they) is a writer and playwright based in Dublin. He is interested in what happens when strangers meet in awkward situations. His first play ‘Pre-Ops’ was awarded the Edmund Lynch Bursary and ran at the 21st International Dublin Gay Theatre Festival in May.
