Remembering Our Babies

In the seventh episode of our special podcast series, marking ten years of creating memories for bereaved families and Baby Loss Awareness Week, we speak with Ruth and Sam.

Ruth's son, Shay, was born in 2016 and after he passed she was transferred to a hospice to be able to spend some time with him. Sam's twins Brody and Rory were born earlier this year; Rory sadly passed away after birth whilst Brody was transferred to neonatal intensive care at another unit and we eventually managed to capture the whole family together when they were reunited.

Both mums share their deeply personal journeys through baby loss, reflecting on their grief and the healing power of remembrance and describe how a Remember My Baby photographer helped them create lasting, cherished memories of their children in a uniquely meaningful way.

In this episode we speak to Remember My Baby Honorary Officer Siân Ness.

Siân trained as a midwife and has worked both within the NHS and private sectors. She is an award-winning Bereavement Midwife, and latterly has become a Bereavement Consultant and Relationship Manager at Cuddlecot.

Siân talks to us about how RMB’s remembrance photography service assists the medical staff working with bereaved families, and the impact on the families themselves. She also discusses how the use of a Cuddlecot can enable parents to spend more time with their babies and increases the opportunity for a range of memory making activities.

In this episode we speak to Helen and Kenny, whose daughter Mia was one of the first babies to be photographed by Remember My Baby in September 2014.

They discuss the experience of using a very new service, and how the photographs they received have become an integral part of their family lives.

To honour Mia's 10th Birthday Helen, Kenny and their other two children are all completing the Edinburgh Kilt Walk, and we chat to them about the significance of this and the funds that they hope to raise for Remember My Baby in Mia's memory.

In the fourth episode of our special podcast series, marking ten years of creating memories for bereaved families, we speak with Joanne and Kayleigh.

Joanne’s daughter, Rosie, was born in 2015, while Kayleigh’s son, Cameron, was born earlier in 2024.

Together, they share their deeply personal journeys through baby loss, reflecting on their grief and the healing power of remembrance. Both mothers describe how a Remember My Baby photographer helped them create lasting, cherished memories of their children in a uniquely meaningful way.

In January 2021, Charles' son George was stillborn. In this frank and enlightening podcast, Charles recounts the story of himself and his wife, Phoebe, as they learned that their son had died. We discuss his feelings, emotions and his subsequent encounter with depression and use of emotional crutches. Charles also talks about the fantastic NHS care the family received, his return to work, advice for recently bereaved dads, and the value of the images taken by Remember My Baby - including the one featured here. As part of our Your Gift is Our Gift 10th Anniversary Appeal, we have commissioned this podcast for International Bereaved Father's Day to acknowledge bereaved fathers everywhere and appreciate the journey that dads take following the loss of their baby.

The second episode of our 10th Anniversary Podcast Series, Remembering Our Babies, features two of Remember My Baby's volunteer photographers - Heidi and Rhiannon.

Based in Kent, Heidi has been a volunteer for six and a half years and is a talented amateur. She has a full-time job and works her volunteering around this. Based at the other end of the UK in Glasgow, Rhiannon has also been a volunteer since 2018 and manages to fit responding to volunteering requests in around running her own photography business and looking after her family.

In this podcast episode Heidi and Rhiannon explain what it's like to be a volunteer photographer for RMB, what completing a session for a bereaved family is like, and talk about the lively community of volunteers that exist all across the UK.

In this opening episode, two of Remember My Baby's original founders, Cheryl Johnson and Nicky Heppenstall, recall what inspired them and others to set up the charity in August 2014.

They also reflect on some of the challenges in those early days, and the growth of the charity since which has created photographic memories for over 7,000 bereaved families across the UK
