Here's the Spotify playlist for this story with notes from Muriel:
Take a journey with us:
I wrote this out with no regard for spelling or punctuation, sorry, not sorry.
The first track is the most famous piece written for a cornet, Dolores Rhoads first instrument.
From there we go through early influences of Randy’s through David Bowie and land on an early hit song from Quiet Riots’ contemporary, Van Halen.
Ozzy comes on the scene, introduced by war pigs.
Then three studio recordings form the Blizzard of Ozz, “Mr Crowley” with the original band including Lee Kerslake (drums) and Bob Daisly (base and lyrics) and then two Randy Rhoads solos, including the interlude he wrote for his mother.
After Sharon fires the original band, we’re introduced to new members.
First Rudy Sarzo: he was playing base for the hair band Angel at the time. “Tower” is a live recording of Sarzo on the base for Angel in Los Angeles.
Then we have drummer Tommy Aldridge, who had just come off of a stint playing with the Pat Travers band at the time, “Hammerhead” is a live recording of the band, featuring Tommy.
And our delightful keyboardist Don Airey had been working with the band Rainbow in the early 80’s and is featured on the track “Since You’ve Been Gone”.
Motörhead was the opening act for the US Blizzard of Ozz tour.
I included the live version of “Crazy Train” because its the only version that features the revised line up of the band.
For US diary of a madman tour, the opening act featured UFO
We start with the studio version of the title track, then live versions featuring Aldridge and Rudy Sarzo.
Then because the live version of “Flying High Again” is such a train wreck, I included the studio version for contrast.
The Calhoun twins owned the airstrip where Randy Rhoads was killed.
Bob Daisly and Lee Kerslake were workign on the album Abominog with Uriah Heap when they heard about the plane crash.
Quiet Riot had thier very first break out album in 1983, the top two tracks from that album feature Rudy Sarzo on base and Kevin DuBrow on vocals.
And finally of course we finish with another big Ozzy solo track “Mama, I’m Coming Home” to tie everthign together.
This is the link for the 1978 Quiet Riot Album, they only released in japan, so its not on Spotify. But this is the YouTube Link to the whole debut album: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aJ8nyc4BNjM
x108. Randy Rhoads: Part 3 of 4
MsM's Exclusive #108. Our trilogy grew into an all out epic! Now it's four parts! In this penultimate episode the Alamo gets peed on, a bat gets its head bitten off, Ozzy overdoses on duck embryos, Sharon and her dad enter into all out war with each other, Randy threatens to quit and a mysterious lady shows up on the tour bus Part 2 of 4. Recorded in the merciful AC of our bedroom. Audio only.

Alberto Benitez's Survival *TEASER*
There's two sides of every story: the one you tell at first, and the one you tell years later. Muriel tracks one man's wildly different tellings of the same heroic act of survival. She nails down some undisputed facts, court rulings and police records but what we end up with is a truly epic Rashomon-style story where each different narrator is actually the same person. Truth is indeed stranger than fiction, because truth-telling is an inherently creative endeavor.
Unlock access to both Parts 1 & 2 (and over a hundred other episodes) on Patreon or Spotify. Thanks for supporting the show, we're cooking up a comeback to free episodes, we love you!
