The Power of Proximity (Part 2)
Funding isn't just logistics; it's power.
In Part 2 of this rich and insightful conversation, Ritah and Geneva get into what it really means to fund community work on your own terms, and why restricted funding can end up promoting injustice instead of addressing it.

The Power of Proximity (Part1)
What sparks a movement? Part one of our two-part conversation with Ritah Obongyo explores the moment the idea for Community Voices Network (CVN) was born. From her mom's living room to touching 15,000 lives in Korogocho Nairobi, we learn how CVN became what it is today.

A Promise with Purpose in the Dominican Republic
What began as a deeply personal promise grew into something much larger. It started with 20 backpacks, quickly became 120, and evolved into a commitment to understanding and addressing the realities facing girls in the Dominican Republic.
Betty and Sofia are the mother-daughter powerhouse behind Latinas y Líderes, an organization serving women, girls, and families across the island.
Through their work, they highlight the structural challenges impacting women and girls. The Dominican Republic has one of the highest adolescent pregnancy rates in Latin America and the Caribbean, and access to sexual and reproductive health education remains limited. Their work speaks to the urgency of these issues and the power of community-led solutions.
This conversation highlights the significance of community-driven action and intergenerational leadership!
As you listen, we invite you to reflect on what it means to show up for community.

Scaling up, Trust, and Local Leadership
This episode offers a behind-the-scenes look at the lessons learned from engaging deeply with leaders on the ground. Geneva, Michou, and Graci reflect on the insights shared by three local leaders featured in earlier podcast episodes: Douglas from Oasis Mathare in Kenya, Anne from Maya Health Alliance in Guatemala, and Phout from Click Lao. These leaders' voices spark a conversation about what it means to serve as intermediaries in trust-based philanthropy — translating context, bridging gaps, and holding space for honest reflection.
Together, they unpack themes such as scaling up responsibly, the positive results of multi-year funding, why deep trust takes time, and how listening to local leaders is essential in shaping effective solutions.
This episode is an invitation to slow down, reflect, and reimagine what sustainable change can look like when trust and context lead the way.

Locally-Led Initiatives: Lessons from Click Lao’s Success
In this candid conversation, Geneva talks with Phout Phimmachanh founder of Click Lao, an organization in Laos that leverages education and technology to strengthen agricultural communities. Phout reflects on how his farming roots and global education shaped his work with local farmers. He highlights agricultural challenges, the role of technology, and the impact of direct grants in empowering local initiatives.
Geneva and Phout also explore funding challenges and how support for women varies across cultures. In Laos, most farms are family-owned and often managed by the matriarch, giving support for women a unique cultural context worth reflecting on.
Now more than ever, the need for flexible funding models that truly empower local organizations is clear.
As you listen to this story, we invite you to reflect on the power of locally-led solutions and consider how flexible support can create lasting change in communities around the world.
