Dcn Eric Meyer & Brian Howell

This episode was inspired by a segment of the Morning Light morning show heard on Salt and Light Radio in Boise Idaho. I would encourage you to tune in Monday through Fridays. The re-occuring guests have a way of sharing the Catholic faith that goes beyond the border of Idaho.

This episode is truly in its rawist form. nothing has been cut. Because our topic is about humor and the ability to laugh at ourselves. These two guys are such incredible friends and I wanted to share that level of comfort with you and pray you have people you can laugh with.

Fr. Gabriel Burke; A Man of Integrity

Integrity, It is hard to come in this modern society. When the ends justify the means it’s okay to lie, cheat and steal. Hey you can even bare false witness about your neighbor.  You can say you had nothing to do with a political decision even when the facts say otherwise. In this episode of Along The Way, Fr. Gabriel Burke joins Dave and Deacon Dave to discuss an incident that made the national news in Ireland.  A pro choice politician attempted to receive communion at a funeral. This episode is about integrity, the integrity that Fr. Burke had to stand his ground and say no!  In this episode Fr Burke shares some valuable advice about sticking to your guns so that we can be men or women of integrity and children of God.

Suffering, it is not just a subject or topic of discussion, it is a part of the human condition that we will probable understand fully in this life time. Everyone experiences it at some point in their life and when we are in those times of suffering the last thing in the world we need is to understand it at an intellectual level, no, it is in those times that we seek a connection of the heart. In this episode Deacon Joe Delaney from the Diocese of Norwich in Connecticut talks With Deacon Dave and Dave about the first steps in the journey to understand, suffering.

Trace Chamberlain; Welcome Home Big Guns.

Welcome to the celebration! That’s right… this episode is a celebration of one of my favorite people in the worlds return home. Born into the Southern Baptist tradition of Christianity, my brother in Christ has been welcomed into the fullness of truth and is living the next chapter of his life sacramentally.  The past few years have been a test of the metal to which he is made and I am more convince that he has the patients of a saint. Fitting for him, that is what he wants to be, a saint. Choosing the name Dismiss Dion as a confirmation name  my friend Trace Chamberlain  enters into the next part of his journey along the way. I am so proud of my friend who is a model of perseverance to me and anyone else that has the privilege of this man of God’s wisdom.

Fr. Skip Thompson; Understanding The Catholic Vote.

Fr. Skip Thompson; Understanding The Catholic Vote.

The Political season is once again upon us. I have to say that I have not seen that many political advertisement’s this time. I guess because I live in a state that is dominated by the democratic ideology. I, at one point in my life followed the tides of politics, believing that that my vote made a difference. Then out of shear frustration I gave up on politics and politicians.  I became a person that didn’t think what happens in Washington had any real effect on me. Now with the price of food and everything else on the rise and the wars that rage on I once again have turned my eyes back to the political arena in hopes that someone has an answer to the problems we face as a nation.

In this episode Fr. Skip Thompson talks with Deacon Dave and Dave about every Catholics Civic Duty to vote. You may feel as if your vote doesn’t count …but stand up and make your voice heard by casting you vote.

Joe McClane; More Holy Than Informed

Joe McClane; More Holy Than Informed

We live in times when it just seem like it’s okay to offend Christians especially Catholic Christian’s. We look and the world and wonder where the world has gone wrong? And it is the world that reminds us of the people that call themselves Catholic and their short comings as well. Scandal and controversy has a way of beating us down. It makes us ask the question who can I trust? Friends I believe Jesus when he said that “This is My church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” We live in a time as witnesses to the truth that the gates of hell will try to take down the church. Jesus I trust in you! Help your people through these times let us not lose even one of your sheep in these battles of attrition.

Joining me along the way is the host of a Catholic Take is someone who prepares for these battles and delivers the information you should know my friend Joe McClane.

Dcn. Dave Imhof; A Thief In The Night

Dcn. Dave Imhof; A Thief In The Night

This episode was hard for Deacon Dave. It is dedicated to his brothers Peter and Paul Imhof. Sadly for us this year they both passed on to their eternal reward.  This casual conversation is a simple reminder that death will eventually run us down and when the chase is over we will breathe our last breath and be face to face with God.

Please remember to have Masses said for those that have gone before you. Remember to pray for the dead.

Jesus I trust in You!

Michael Foley; Theology and Mixology

This is a fun episode that connects theological truths with the need to just unwind. In this episode author Michael Foley discusses his book “Drinking With The Saints”. He discusses how he came across some of the most delightful sounding drink recipes while pairing them with some 100 proof saints. As someone who enjoys simplicity in all things Michael assures me that beer and Irish Whiskey is a good mix in moderation. I hope you enjoy this episode as it was fun for me to record.

I believe that Divine Mercy is the most important devotion to the world, because it goes beyond being just devotion and is more a lifestyle. To understand Divine Mercy you really need to understand the image and St. Faustina’s diary. From this casual conversation, I look at the image with renewed eyes. I hope it will be as eye opening for you as it was for me.

It is incredible the people that God will intersect our paths with. This episode is an amazing testimonial to the mercy of God. My guest in this episode is a former Pentecostal, former Satanist and professed Buddhist monk that has found his home in the Catholic Church. This self-proclaimed trouble maker found redemption when he came face to face with the Holy Eucharist. This is an amazing journey that I am happy to share with you. Please share this episode with someone who needs to hear about God’s mercy.  Joining me along the way is David Fisher.

Each of us has a personal philosophy that guides us and shapes our perception of reality. I think that Philosophy without theology is misguided and leads to disordered thinking. This school of thought leads to the many ism’s that are plaguing this modern society.

What is your philosophy and what is it rooted in? Does it inspire you to grow in the faith? Joining me along the way is one of the hosts of Coffee Conversation’s Fr. David Stavarz

Bishop Alphonsus Cullinan; What is Truth?

This episode was a long time in the making. For months I have been trying to contact my guest to make this possible. Technology had let me down as neither, he or I could contact each other. Thank God and our mutual persistence it was finally possible for this episode to become a reality.  In this episode I ask Bishop Alphonsus Cullinan, the Bishop of Waterford and Lismore Ireland and a known defender of the faith to help me understand the age old question…What is truth?

Fr. Basil Cole OP; Angels and Demons Virtues and Vice.

When Tan books reached out to me to talk to the author of one of their new titles, I jumped at the chance. Fr. Basil Cole is an academic that make Aquinas understandable to a common person such as myself. At the time of this interview I had not received my copy and I felt like I was at a bit of a disadvantage. That could not be further from the truth, this was a fascinating conversation.  In Father Coles new book  ”Angelic Virtues and Demonic Vices” he talks about a deeper understand of God through living a virtuous life and the viciousness of vice take that all away from us. Again making Aquinas understandable to a simple man with a simple theology; Me.

My Spiritual Band of Brothers!

My Spiritual Band of Brothers!

Discouragement, It may be a suggestion from the devil himself or It may come from the voice of someone else. Discouragement, it can even come from the self-talk we have with ourselves. Where ever this stumbling block to the journey God has called us upon it is important to have trusted friends that have your spiritual back. This episode is devoted to the guys that I call my Spiritual Band of Brothers. Joining me along the way is Dave Imhof, Jay Goodman, Eddie Trask, Pat King and the guy who became my friend in an hour of darkness and was a source of encouragement, Trace Chamberlain.

Fr. Gabriel Burke; St. Patrick, A man of Such Faith.

It’s no secret that I am proud of my Irish heritage. I close every episode with an old Irish blessing as a tribute to all of the wonderful things that the Irish have given the world. Poets and Scholars Ireland has delivered some of the best, and according to my guest only the best whiskey comes from Ireland.  So, as St Patrick’s day approaches and we celebrate everyone being Irish that day, I wanted to know more about the patron saint of Ireland. Joining me along the way is my good friend Fr. Gabriel Burke. In this casual conversation Father Burke dispels the myths that surround Saint Patrick only to reveal a man of such faith.

Fr. Robert Nixon OSB; Insights on Death.

The Catholic faith is enormously rich in wisdom. For centuries sage men and woman have been sharing this wisdom, but as our culture moves away from the common language of the church these treasures of the faith risk getting lost. In this casual conversation I speak with a Roman Catholic priest about the work he is doing to translate these classic works. Along with Tan Books these treasures of wisdom are being preserved for a new generation. In this episode I talk with Fr. Robert Nixon OSB about his recent translation of a work that I was completely unaware of, Thomas A Kempis’s Meditations on Death. This conversation helped me the put meaning of death in a better perspective.

Please don’t let the length of this episode scare you away. This is one of my favorite discussions on the mystery of suffering. I met my guest Pat King at a Knights of Columbus conference on evangelization in New Haven. I was fortunate to be assigned to the same table as Pat and had a chance to really get to know him. Pat is a guy that really understands what it means to be Along “The Way”, and he is joining me in this episode to be a witness to the value of suffering in hardships. Like I said, please don’t let the length of this episode scare you away.
