77 | CHOOSE YOUR CHALLENGE
CHOOSE YOUR HARD
Sometimes the rain isn’t the problem. It’s how much we fight the fact that it’s raining.
It was a rainy Friday morning. Cold. Wet. One of those mornings where everything just feels a little harder than it needs to be.
And honestly, the weather wasn’t even the biggest problem.
The morning had already been chaos. Missing glasses. Missing shoes. Kids to get where they needed to go. Work waiting. A brain already running in ten different directions.
I felt behind before the day had really started.
And sitting in my truck, I started thinking:
Maybe the goal isn’t to avoid the hard. Maybe it’s to choose how we meet it.
CHOOSE YOUR HARD
We love making plans.
I make them as a dad. I make them as a coach. I make them at work. I make them in business.
Planning is good.
The problem comes when we start believing the plan guarantees the outcome.
Because then it rains. Someone loses their shoes. The schedule changes. Something doesn’t work. You get overwhelmed.
And suddenly, instead of dealing with what’s actually happening, you’re frustrated because it isn’t what you thought should be happening.
That’s where I’m trying to make a shift:
Choose your hard instead of resenting the hard you’re already in.
If it’s raining, meet the rain. If it’s cold, meet the cold. If life is busy, figure out how you need to manage the busyness.
You might not get to choose the conditions.
But you still get to choose your response.
SOMETIMES YOU LET YOURSELF DOWN
Even a Cleveland Browns win got me thinking about expectations.
We spend a lot of time worrying about other people disappointing us. But sometimes the harder truth is this:
We disappoint ourselves.
We know how we want to show up—as husbands, dads, coaches, and leaders.
And sometimes we don’t.
That doesn’t mean we stay there. It means we recognize it, learn from it, and decide how we’re going to respond next.
MY RAIN RIGHT NOW
Right now, my rain is busyness.
There are a lot of good things happening. Family. Work. Coaching. Building. Creating.
But good things can still become too much when there’s no margin between them.
And I’m learning that feeling overwhelmed doesn’t necessarily mean everything is going wrong.
Sometimes it means I need to manage myself better.
Slow down. Make room. Reset. Decide what actually matters today.
Because maybe we appreciate the sunshine a little more after the rain. Maybe warmth feels different after the cold.
And maybe some of the seasons we’re trying so hard to escape are actually building something in us.
YOUR CHALLENGE
What’s your rain right now?
Don’t spend all your energy wishing the conditions were different.
Ask yourself:
What can I control?
How do I want to respond?
What could this be building in me?
Then choose your hard.
And meet the day you actually have.
TRUCK TALK
That’s the idea behind these short conversations.
A few minutes on the drive. A chance to think. A chance to reset.
And hopefully, by the time you pull into wherever you’re going, you’re a little more prepared to show up the way you want to.
Better men. Better coaches. Better dads.

76 | PRAISE THE PERSON YOU ARE BECOMING
PRAISE THE PERSON YOU’RE BECOMING
What if praise shouldn’t only come after you get it right?
We usually think of praise as a reward.
You played well → praise. You made the right decision → praise. Your kid listened → praise. Your athlete executed → praise.
But lately, I’ve been thinking about praise differently.
What if we used praise to help build the behavior we want to see—not just celebrate it afterward?
As a coach, dad, leader, and even just in the way I talk to myself, I’m realizing there’s power in naming the good before the pressure hits.
Instead of waiting for someone to prove themselves, tell them what you already see developing.
“You’re becoming someone who handles hard things well.”
“I love how you keep showing up.”
“You’re learning how to lead.”
“You’re becoming more disciplined.”
And maybe we need to do the same thing for ourselves.
PRAISE + CORRECTION
Praise doesn’t mean ignoring what needs to improve.
Great coaching requires correction. Parenting requires correction. Growth requires correction.
But correction hits differently when someone already knows what you believe they’re capable of.
That’s something I want to get better at:
Don’t just point out what needs fixed. Reinforce what needs built.
PREPARE YOUR PRAISE
Here’s the practical challenge I’ve been thinking about:
Don’t wait until the moment to decide what deserves your attention.
Write it down.
Before practice, think about what you want to reinforce in your athletes.
Before walking through the door after work, think about what you want to notice in your family.
Before starting your own day, remind yourself of the person you’re trying to become.
Then look for evidence of it.
Because the things we consistently notice, name, and reinforce have a way of growing.
THIS WEEK’S CHALLENGE
Pick one person in your life.
Your spouse. Your child. An athlete. A coworker. Or yourself.
Don’t wait for them to do something extraordinary.
Find something worth reinforcing today and say it out loud.
Praise the progress.
Praise the effort.
Praise the person they’re becoming.
And then keep building.
BETTER MEN. BETTER COACHES. BETTER DADS.

75 | Anthony The Real Ketchup Guy
75 | Anthony The Real Ketchup Guy
From the archives here is an unreleased episode we only dropped on YouTube last year! Loved this talk with my friend Anthony!
Healthy ketchup, a comeback story, and the kind of conversation that reminds dads why they started trying in the first place.
Coach Sean Patrick sits down with Anthony Martins, better known as The Real Ketchup Guy, for a surprisingly powerful conversation about food, purpose, and what it really takes to keep going when life gets hard. Anthony shares how a childhood love of ketchup turned into a partnership with True Made Foods, a brand built around hidden veggies, no added sugar, and condiments that actually make sense for families trying to make better choices.
But this episode goes way beyond ketchup.
You’ll hear how Anthony went from an underdog athlete, to a walk-on football player, to a boxer, stuntman, and eventually a creator who built a new career in his 40s after years of doubt, injuries, and financial grind. He opens up about the years he survived on almost nothing in Los Angeles, the moment one letter from a young person changed his mindset, and why his biggest lesson is simple: never give up, even when the path looks ridiculous to everyone else.
Sean and Anthony also break down why kids books matter, why representation in reading matters, and how books can shape identity, emotional health, and confidence in kids who need to see themselves reflected on the page. From anxiety to boldness, from fatherhood to mental health, from content creation to building a life with purpose, the conversation keeps circling back to one thing: helping people live better today.
Anthony also shares the mission behind True Made Foods, including their no-sugar ketchup, mustard, barbecue sauces, and seasonings, plus the values behind supporting veteran-owned, minority-owned, smaller businesses that are trying to do good in the world. Along the way, Sean and Anthony talk about creating positive media, being more intentional with time, and why joy, community, and a little bit of childlike fun still matter more than most of us admit.
If you’re a dad, a creator, a parent, or just someone who needs a reminder that your story is still being written, this one will hit home. It’s funny, honest, unexpected, and packed with the kind of encouragement that can help you take the next step.

74 | BREWING BEHAVIORS
Brewing Awareness: Cultivating Intentional Behaviors
Exploring how our habits, like coffee, take time to develop.
Did you know that the average cup of coffee takes anywhere from one to five minutes to brew? As Sean Patrick reflects on this, he invites us to consider how we can use that brief moment to reset our minds and cultivate intentional thinking.
The Brew of Intentionality
In today’s episode, Sean shares a personal story of feeling unmotivated at work. Instead of pushing through, he decided to step outside for a walk, drawing inspiration from the various brewing methods of coffee. Each method — from a quick espresso to a slow cold brew — represents different ways we can approach our tasks and lives, emphasizing that just like coffee, our thoughts and actions require time to develop.
"It doesn’t take very long to make an improvement, but it takes a really long time to keep that improvement going."
Observations from the Classroom
While at school, Sean noticed the varying levels of focus among students. Some were hyper-aware, while others were blissfully unaware. This led him to reflect on the importance of being present and intentional as fathers.
He emphasizes that, as men, we need to allow boys to express themselves, while also guiding them in understanding the consequences of their actions.
Brewing Behaviors
Sean connects the metaphor of brewing coffee to the behaviors we develop over time. He questions whether the struggles we face as adults might have started brewing in our youth.
"Life is stress. It’s just a matter of what stress you’re stacking."
He discusses how our behaviors, both good and bad, can take time to brew, and how we need to be aware of what we are cultivating in ourselves and our children.
Key Takeaways
1. Awareness of Behaviors: Let's become more aware of the behaviors we're brewing in our lives. What emerges when we're stressed?
2. Modeling for Our Kids: While we can’t control our children’s choices, we can strive to model the best behaviors ourselves.
As you brew your next cup of coffee, take a moment to reflect on your own behaviors and the impact they have on those around you. Life is about gradual improvement and understanding that mistakes are part of the journey. Let’s embrace the process and strive to be the best versions of ourselves, both for us and our children.

73 | DAD SPACE
Finding Your Dad Space: Embracing the Journey
Exploring the challenges and joys of fatherhood in today’s world.
Sometimes, the best encouragement comes from the stories of others—not just their successes, but their struggles as well. This week, Sean Patrick dives into the often chaotic yet rewarding journey of fatherhood, sharing his own experiences and insights on finding balance in the dad space.
The Importance of Connection
Sean reflects on a conversation with his friend Ben Barker, who reminded him of the value in sharing not just achievements but also setbacks. This candidness can create a sense of normalcy for fathers navigating their own challenges. Sean wants to create a community where men can connect over their experiences, recognizing that being a dad is a crucial part of their identities.
The Evolution of Dad Content
Since Sean started this podcast in 2024, he has seen a significant rise in content geared towards dads. While some of this content is genuinely helpful, the saturation can also lead to confusion about what truly matters in the dad space. He emphasizes that the focus should not be on marketing or selling products but rather on fostering genuine connections among fathers.
Three Steps Towards Clarity
In today’s episode, Sean shares three personal steps he is taking to find clarity in his dad space:
1. Limit Podcast Consumption
Reducing the number of podcasts he listens to daily has helped Sean focus on quality over quantity. Finding a few key voices to follow has made his listening experience more meaningful.
2. Identify Personal Needs
Instead of trying to meet external expectations, Sean encourages dads to reflect on their own needs. Writing down daily necessities has helped him align his actions with his personal goals, whether it’s nourishing his body or ensuring he carves out time for reading.
3. Create Quiet Space
Amidst the chaos of parenting, Sean emphasizes the importance of finding quiet moments for oneself. He acknowledges the challenge of establishing this space but believes it’s crucial for mental clarity and recovery.
A Call to Reflection
As Sean wraps up, he invites listeners to consider their own journeys in the dad space. It’s not about following every piece of advice or purchasing the latest products; it’s about finding what works for you and creating a supportive environment for yourself and your family. The dad years may be demanding, but with intention and community, they can also be incredibly fulfilling.
Remember, it’s all about being the best version of yourself—today and every day.

72 | EDUCATORS
What happens when structure becomes control—and teachers lose the freedom to truly teach?
In this episode, Sean Patrick and Joe have an honest conversation about autonomy, creativity, collaboration, and perfectionism in education. They explore the tension between following a scripted curriculum and trusting teachers to use their experience, personality, and understanding of their students.
Sean and Joe discuss why every classroom interprets learning differently, how fresh perspectives can reveal potential others may have missed, and why collaboration matters more than uniformity. Sean also shares a personal story about his daughter’s classroom experience and the pressure often placed on well-behaved students to lead, help, and hold everything together.
As Sean explains, “You can’t see the picture when you’re standing inside the frame.”
The conversation also moves beyond the classroom into parenting, leadership, and the importance of community. Both Sean and Joe reflect on releasing perfectionism, accepting that educators do not need to have every answer, and creating environments where teachers and students can bring their full selves to the work.
This episode is for teachers, coaches, parents, and leaders trying to balance high expectations with creativity, compassion, and joy.

71 | RECHARGED
71 | RECHARGED
Recharge Your Battery: Finding Joy in Fatherhood
Explore how to keep your energy up as a dad and find joy in everyday moments.
In today’s episode, Sean Patrick shares his journey toward transforming the podcast into a platform for meaningful conversations rather than just content creation. This shift is aimed at fostering genuine connections, especially among fathers navigating the challenges of parenting.
From Content to Conversations
Sean reflects on the pressures of performing for an audience and highlights the importance of engaging in authentic dialogues. He emphasizes that the podcast will focus on keeping joy alive in various aspects of life, including parenting, work, and personal hobbies.
The Importance of Recharging
The central theme of this episode is about recharging our personal "batteries." Sean candidly discusses his experiences with fitness, particularly his struggles with aerobic capacity after a break from training. He draws parallels between physical and emotional energy, urging listeners to reflect on what recharges them in their daily lives.
"I am the Ryobi mower, the battery. I forget to charge it. I think you know what? I don’t need a hobby or I don’t need the free time or I don’t need this. I’ll be fine. And then all of a sudden I’m like the Ryobi mower and I’m just done."
What Charges You?
He encourages listeners to identify their sources of energy. Is it podcasting, training, or simply enjoying a cup of coffee? Sean shares that while conversations energize him, they can also drain him, depending on the context.
Finding Your Own Recharge
Sean advises against adopting someone else’s method of recharging. Instead, he suggests being mindful and communicative about one’s own needs. He shares various activities that help him recharge, from podcasting to engaging in creative projects like music.
Simple Takeaways
- Engage in activities that genuinely recharge you. Whether it's exercising, spending time with family, or pursuing hobbies, recognize what lifts your spirits.
- Don’t let recharging become another performance. Enjoy the process for its own sake, rather than feeling pressured to meet external expectations.
- Try new things. Whether it's a fitness program or a creative project, explore what works for you without the stress of competition.
As Sean wraps up the episode, he reminds listeners that recharging doesn’t always mean taking a break; sometimes it’s about engaging in fulfilling activities.
Reflecting on the journey ahead, he is committed to bringing more guests onto the podcast and fostering conversations that enrich our experiences as dads.
Thanks for tuning in to this new chapter of the Just Call Dad podcast. Let’s keep the joy in our lives and recharge together!

September 1st. There was something different in the air.
Sitting outside early in the morning, I caught that familiar smell of fall—the kind that brings back memories and reminds you that seasons change whether you're ready for them or not.
And it made me realize something: maybe the goal isn't to stop striving. Maybe it's to learn how to strive lighter.
For the last two and a half years, Just Call Dad has been about making the call, starting conversations, and reminding dads that they don't have to figure everything out alone. But eventually, after you make the call, you have to get back to living.
In this final episode of Just Call Dad, I reflect on Ecclesiastes, finding joy in the work, slowing down enough to notice what's already around us, my faith, fatherhood, and why chasing more isn't necessarily the answer.
Sometimes we spend our lives chasing the next accomplishment, dollar, view, connection, or opportunity—striving after the wind—when some of the things that matter most are already sitting right in front of us.
So this isn't really an ending.
It's the next step.
Just Call Dad taught me to make the call.
Now it's time to take everything I've learned and Strive Light(er).
Slow down, son. See the sunrise.
Then get back to work.

68 | FIND YOUR CREW ft. Evan Bush
68 | Find your crew ft. Evan Bush
Evan Bush — More Than the Game
What does professional sports teach you about being a dad?
In this episode, I sit down with Columbus Crew goalkeeper Evan Bush to talk about much more than soccer.
We talk about longevity, adversity, family, identity, leadership, and what happens when the game you’ve spent your life playing becomes something your kids get to watch you do.
Evan’s career has taken him from Ohio to the University of Akron and through more than a decade of professional soccer. Along the way, he’s become a husband, a father, a veteran teammate, and someone younger players can look to for guidance.
This conversation is about staying the course.
It’s about learning that your value isn’t always determined by whether you’re the one getting the start.
It’s about coming back when life knocks you down.
And it’s about figuring out who you want your kids to see when they look past the uniform.
In this conversation:
• Fatherhood and professional sports
• Separating performance from identity
• Staying committed when the path gets difficult
• Coming back from injury and adversity
• Leadership when you’re not in the spotlight
• Being a veteran and mentoring the next generation
• What our kids learn from watching how we handle success and failure
• Defining success beyond wins, statistics, and accomplishments

A question worth thinking about after this episode:
When the accomplishments, job titles, wins, and losses are stripped away — who do your kids know you to be?
Because eventually the game ends.
Being Dad doesn’t.

67 | NOTES & PLANS
67 | NOTES & PLANS
Would You Take Your Own Advice?
As dads, we give a lot of advice.
Keep going.
Be kind.
Tell the truth.
Put the phone down.
Don’t worry about what everyone else thinks.
Take care of yourself.
Have courage.
Say you’re sorry.
Be present.
But here’s the harder question:
Are we listening to our own advice?
In this episode, we talk about the gap between the things we tell our kids and the way we actually live. Not from a place of perfection—but from the realization that our kids are learning from what they see in us every day.
Maybe being a dad isn’t about having all the answers.
Maybe sometimes it’s about finally taking some of the advice we’ve been giving everyone else.
Questions to think about:
• What advice do I give my kids most often?
• Where am I struggling to follow it myself?
• What are my kids learning from watching me?
• When I mess up, do they see me own it and make it right?
• If my kids followed my example instead of my advice, where would it lead them?

Over the Fourth of July weekend, I found myself in one of those moments that reminds you what really matters.
I watched a group of young men—guys I've coached and invested in over the years—playing with my daughters. They weren't just entertaining them. They were protecting them, encouraging them, and caring for them because years ago someone cared enough to invest in them.
That's when it hit me.
The greatest return on investment isn't money. It's people.
As I watched families celebrating Independence Day and millions of people around the world unite around the World Cup, I was reminded that people are wired to belong to something bigger than themselves. We all long for connection, purpose, and community.
That's exactly why Just Call Dad exists.
Not because we have all the answers.
Because no one should have to face life alone.
Relationships aren't built in one conversation.
They're built through years of showing up.
Whether you're raising kids, coaching athletes, leading at work, or simply being present for a friend, every small act of consistency compounds over time.
Keep showing up.
One of the unexpected gifts of this podcast has been meeting incredible men from around the world.
Sometimes those conversations inspire me.
Sometimes they tempt me to compare.
But comparison steals the very thing connection is supposed to give us.
You don't need another dad's life.
You need to faithfully live yours.
Winning as a father isn't having the biggest house, the best body, or the largest platform.
Winning is becoming more present with the people God has already entrusted to you.
Whether it's a workout group, a Bible study, a coaching staff, a neighborhood coffee group, or simply a weekly phone call with another dad...
Don't consume community.
Build it.
Encourage someone.
Check in.
Log the workout.
Send the text.
Make the call.
Those small moments become the foundation for someone's hardest day.
This week, reach out to one person you've been meaning to connect with.
Not because you need something.
Because they matter.
A five-minute phone call, a text, or grabbing coffee could become the conversation they didn't know they needed.
Someone is always just a call away.
"Our effort is the win. The community reminds us we don't have to carry life alone."
The vision for Just Call Dad has never been about becoming the biggest podcast.
It's about building a network of dads, coaches, teachers, mentors, and everyday men who are willing to answer the phone.
If one conversation creates another conversation...
If one dad encourages another...
If one young man grows into the kind of father someone can call...
Then we're building exactly what we set out to build.
Because every great dad needs someone to call.
Until next week,
Coach Sean Patrick

Four years ago, Sean sat alone in a Tim Hortons atrium at Riverside Hospital — breakfast sandwich, coffee, and a camera pointed at himself — just trying to process.
His wife was in a high-risk pregnancy room. His daughter was growth restricted. Nobody was watching. Nobody needed to be.
That moment is where the Just Call Dad Podcast was born.
This week, Sean gets real about why he's closing one chapter and stepping fully into the next. No guest. No agenda. Just a dad with a coffee, a new *Dad Pace* hat from Slow Dad Run Co, and something he needs to say.
In this episode:
- Why the work nobody sees is often the most important work you do
- What 4 years of building behind the scenes actually looks like
- How a NICU waiting room became the birthplace of a podcast
- Why you don't have to reach the destination to share your story
- What's coming next for Just Call Dad — and why the mission is bigger than ever
Eight years into fatherhood. Four years into this podcast. One thing is clear: dad life was never meant to be done alone.
This is the reset. New season. Same mission. Let's go.
Happy 4th birthday to the little one who started it all — small and mighty.*

61. End of Beginnings
What happens when a season ends?
In this episode of The Just Call Dad Podcast, Coach Sean Patrick reflects on the end of a coaching season, the final daycare drop-off with his daughter, and the emotions that come with realizing life moves faster than we want it to.
This episode is about:
• grieving small moments before they disappear
• leadership through safety and trust
• honoring the seasons behind us
• preparing for the ones ahead
• and learning how to hold on a little longer
Because seasons may end… but lessons do not.

60. ON TRACK
What story are you really telling with your life?
In this short coaching episode, Sean Patrick reflects on a moment at a track meet that sparked a deeper question about manhood, identity, and the artificial stories men often chase to impress others. From past versions of ourselves to the pressure of appearing successful, strong, or “cool,” this episode challenges dads and young men to stop building their lives around narratives that were never meant to define them.
This conversation is about presence over performance, purpose over perception, and learning how to live a story you’ll actually be proud to tell someday.
If no one else was around to hear your story… would you still want to live it?
🎙️ Focus. Train. Build.
One dad trying to help other dads lead with intention.

59. Jason Kolaczkowski
Episode 59 of the Just Call Dad Podcast is one of our most real and powerful conversations yet. We sit down with Jason Kolaczkowski to talk about fatherhood, fear, survival, and what it means to give yourself grace in the middle of life’s hardest moments. After climbing in the Himalayas to teach his sons about endurance and dreaming big, Jason was diagnosed with leukemia — and shortly after, the world shut down during COVID.
This episode dives deep into the emotional weight dads carry silently: protecting our kids while trying to hold ourselves together. We talk about anxiety, health scares, mental health, self-forgiveness, and the idea that being a dad is always a work in progress. Jason shares how therapy, journaling, climbing, and eventually writing his book Notions of Grace helped him process fear, guilt, and perspective — while still showing up for his family.
If you’re a dad navigating pressure, uncertainty, mental health struggles, or simply trying to become a better man for your family, this conversation will hit home.
🎙️ Topics Include:
- Fatherhood during crisis
- Leukemia, COVID, and fear of mortality
- Mental health and anxiety as dads
- Self-forgiveness and grace
- Why vulnerability matters for men
- Raising resilient kids without fear

58. WIN YOUR WINDOW
Episode Description:
We don’t need more time—we need to see the time we already have.
In this episode of Just Call Dad, Coach Sean Patrick reflects on the small windows of life we often miss as dads, husbands, and leaders. In the middle of busy schedules, loud homes, and tired minds, there are moments—brief, powerful glimpses—that shape everything.
From watching his daughters play during a rare, perfect two-minute stretch… to learning how to slow down through breath… to realizing that doing more isn’t always the answer—this episode is about awareness.
It’s about shifting from trying to control every moment… to actually experiencing them.
You’ll hear:
* Why “windows” are a better way to think about time than “balance”
* How breathing can bring you back into the moment
* The difference between being present and just being there
* Why simplifying your focus might be the key to winning your life
* And how to start winning your window—today
Because the truth is…
You’ll never feel like you had “enough” time.
But you can make sure the time you had… mattered.
Win your window. Win your day. Win your dad life.

57. Be a Duck | Find a Duck
Most of us have heard the phrase "be a duck" — but what if that advice is leading us in the wrong direction? When I saw a wounded duck fighting for its life on the road, it hit me: resilience isn’t about letting everything roll off your back. Sometimes, true strength is in the loyalty, vulnerability, and willingness to stay committed even when the odds seem against you.
In this episode, I share a powerful story about that duck—and how it mirrors our own struggles as dads. You’ll discover how the raw image of resilience on the road can teach us about loyalty, community, and the importance of finding someone to walk beside us. We break down the true meaning of being "a duck" — not just letting stress slide off, but actively choosing loyalty and resilience in the face of life's toughest challenges.
You’ll hear about the lessons from nature that can help you navigate stress, loneliness, and internal battles. From how ducks adapt to their environment to why loyalty is your greatest strength, this episode unlocks a new perspective on resilience. If you're feeling overwhelmed, alone, or unsure of your next step, this is your call to find a fellow dad, a loyal partner, or a community that will stay committed to you — just like that duck’s partner standing loyally by its side.
Take a moment to reflect: Are you the duck on the road, fighting your battles in silence? Or are you the loyal partner who stays? The choice to be resilient, loyal, and connected could transform how you handle life's storms. Perfect for dads, husbands, and anyone feeling the weight of life's challenges — because sometimes, the greatest strength is in simply staying in the fight.
Join me as we explore the power of loyalty, adaptability, and staying committed to the people who matter most. Because in a world full of noise, belonging and resilience remain your greatest weapons.

56. CHARLEY CASS

Charlie Cass’s incredible story of rising from a childhood without a father figure to becoming a leader in his community will challenge the way you view fatherhood, mentorship, and legacy.
In this heartfelt episode, Charlie shares how a man named Ed became the model of authentic leadership for him—and how every dad can intentionally influence the next generation, even when their own blueprint is missing. You'll discover the power of "man lessons" learned through work and community, and how those lessons shape well-rounded, purpose-driven kids. Charlie’s insights on fostering respect, teaching formal communication, and navigating the often-misguided advice dads receive will leave you inspired to refresh your approach and prioritize your child's long-term growth over short-term wins.We break down key strategies: the importance of modeling behavior, the value of unintentional mentorship, and how to influence your child's environment positively—whether at home, on the field, or in the classroom. Charlie emphasizes that fatherhood isn’t a finish line but a lifelong journey of continuous growth, and every small step counts toward raising adults who serve and lead with purpose.I
If you’re a dad committed to making a lasting impact, this episode is your blueprint for doing it intentionally—especially when your own dad story was incomplete.
Perfect for parents, coaches, mentors, and aspiring leaders who believe in shaping resilient, respectful, and purpose-driven young men and women.Join us as we explore how the right influence, at the right time, can change lives and communities. Because the true legacy of a dad isn’t just what he teaches, but what his children become. Don’t miss this inspiring conversation that reminds us all—every moment counts in the unfinished story of fatherhood.

55. NOSTALGIA & GOLF
Episode 55: Nostalgic Golf — The Power of Smell, Memory & Pressure
What does a golf course, a random smell in your house, and being a dad all have in common?
More than you think.
In this episode of Just Call Dad, Coach Sean Patrick dives into two simple ideas—nostalgia and golf—and uncovers something deeper about how we live, lead, and remember as fathers.
We talk about those moments that hit you out of nowhere…
A smell. A season. A sound.
And suddenly you’re back—holding your baby, coaching a race, or standing next to your dad on the range.
There’s real science behind it: smell connects directly to memory and emotion. It bypasses the filters. It’s raw. It’s real. And for dads, it’s powerful.
But here’s the tension—
We don’t just remember moments… we feel pressure to create them perfectly.
To make birthdays unforgettable.
To not miss the “little years.”
To get it right.
And just like golf…
The same swing feels very different under pressure.
So what do we do?
We stop trying to perform—and we start choosing to play.
This episode is about:
* Why nostalgia can either build you up or weigh you down
* How smell and memory can reconnect you to what actually matters
* The pressure dads feel to “get it right” (and why that’s the wrong goal)
* Learning to lead your family with courage, not perfection
* Letting go of performance and stepping into presence
You don’t get a practice round in fatherhood.
But you do get today.
So take a breath.
Slow down.
Notice the moment you’re in.
And then go live it.
Don’t just talk about life—go live it.

Most dads feel the pressure to always be present — but what if real strength lies in knowing when to step away? In this heartfelt episode, Coach Sean Patrick shares a powerful story about balancing coaching, family, and self-care, all while redefining what it means to be a good dad.
When the stress of a chilly track meet, late nights coaching, and the constant rush of life converge, Sean learns that the most impactful call you can make isn’t just to your family — it’s to yourself. He dives into the transformative power of taking a breath, embracing vulnerability, and recognizing that prioritizing your own well-being isn’t selfish — it’s essential.
You’ll discover:

Sean’s story reminds us that living courageously on purpose means showing up fully, starting with taking care of yourself.
Perfect for dads feeling overwhelmed, passionate about their family, and seeking authentic connection, this episode will inspire you to redefine strength and purpose — both in your life and in your role as a dad. Remember, you’re already enough, and the best gift you can give your family is a well-loved, self-aware, and resilient version of yourself.

Embracing the Relay of Life: A Journey Through Fatherhood and Podcasting
Introduction:
Welcome to the Just Call Dad podcast where host Sean Patrick opens up about the challenges and triumphs of fatherhood and the creative process. In a candid discussion, he reflects on the struggles of self-doubt, the fear of judgment, and the importance of community in navigating life’s hurdles.
Main Content:
The Struggle with Self-Doubt
Sean begins by sharing the raw emotions that led him to consider quitting the podcast. "I almost quit this podcast," he admits, highlighting the unseen hard work that often goes into passionate projects. Many can relate to the feeling of inadequacy when confronted with criticism or even perceived judgment. Sean notes, "nobody really wants to listen to what I have to say," a sentiment that resonates with many dads who might feel isolated in their experiences.
**The Dichotomy of Fear**
One of the key themes in Sean’s reflection is the dual fear of failure and success. He expresses concern about creating something that no one listens to, as well as the pressure that comes with producing popular content. This fear is common among creators who seek validation while grappling with the potential for disappointment. Sean says, "If I create something good, it's terrifying. If I create something bad, it's terrifying." This paradox illustrates the emotional rollercoaster that often accompanies creative endeavors.
The Analogy of Race Day
Sean introduces the analogy of race day to describe the pressures of life and fatherhood. He recalls his experiences in track and field, noting that he thrived in relay races due to the support of his teammates. "I felt this sense of connection," he explains, emphasizing the importance of community in achieving success. Dads, like athletes, can benefit from a supportive network to share burdens and celebrate victories together.
The Importance of Connection and Accountability
The idea of approaching life as a relay race rather than an individual competition is a transformative perspective. Sean encourages fathers to seek connections with one another, to hand off struggles, and to lean on each other for accountability. "Dad life isn't meant to be lived alone," he asserts, reminding listeners that collaboration can alleviate the weight of expectations.
Finding Your Identity
As Sean navigates his journey, he reflects on the need for self-discovery amidst the chaos of responsibilities. He admits, "I had no idea. I had never met myself." This realization is pivotal for many fathers who juggle multiple roles and may lose sight of their individual identities. Understanding one’s own motivations and desires is crucial in fostering resilience.
Conclusion
In this episode, Sean Patrick courageously shares his struggles with self-doubt and the importance of community and connectivity in the journey of fatherhood and creativity. The key takeaway? Don’t quit when faced with challenges; instead, restructure your approach and surround yourself with a supportive relay team. Life’s race is not meant to be run alone, and by working together, we can strive towards our best selves.

43. JUST BE
Embracing the Present: How Dads Can Be Present and Accounted For
Introduction: In today’s fast-paced world, many dads find themselves caught between the demands of work, family, and personal aspirations. In a recent episode of the Just Call Dad podcast, Coach Sean Patrick emphasizes the importance of being present and accounted for in our children's lives. He shares valuable insights and practical tips for fathers looking to improve their connection with their families while navigating daily challenges.
Main Content:
1. Understanding the Concept of Being Present
Coach Sean Patrick opens the episode by discussing the necessity of being genuinely present for our families. He reminds listeners that material possessions and accolades pale in comparison to the value of quality time spent with loved ones. As he puts it, "my present to my family... is far more significant than any gift I can buy."
2. The Importance of Connection
In a world where social media often portrays a filtered version of reality, Sean highlights the significance of authentic connections. He recounts a personal experience of reaching out to friends and feeling disappointed when they didn’t reciprocate. This reflects a common struggle among dads who often invest in friendships that may not be as fulfilling. Sean encourages fathers to focus on those who do connect and to appreciate those relationships more deeply.
3. The Focus 10 and Focus 5 Techniques
To help dads become more present, Sean introduces two techniques: the Focus 10 and Focus 5. The Focus 10 involves dedicating ten uninterrupted minutes to engage in an activity with your child, such as coloring or building with Legos. The Focus 5, on the other hand, encourages quick, active moments like playing tag or having a dance party. These short bursts of focused time can lead to deeper connections and a more engaged parenting experience.
4. Accountability Among Dads
Sean emphasizes the importance of accountability among fathers. He suggests creating a list of four to five dad friends to check in with regularly. By sharing parenting experiences and challenges, dads can support each other in their journeys. This camaraderie can provide motivation and inspiration, reminding each other of the importance of being present for their families.
5. Overcoming the Pressure to Be Perfect
As the holiday season approaches, Sean addresses the pressure many dads feel to be perfect. He encourages listeners to let go of unrealistic expectations and focus instead on simply being present. He reassures that today can still be their best day, regardless of past challenges.
Conclusion: In this enlightening episode, Coach Sean Patrick reminds fathers of the profound impact they can have on their families by simply being present. By implementing techniques like the Focus 10 and Focus 5, and fostering connections with fellow dads, they can enhance their roles as parents. The key takeaway is that being present is more important than striving for perfection. Dads can make a difference by embracing the moments they have now.

33. CARE
The Just Call Dad Podcast is where real dads have real conversations. Hosted by Coach Sean Patrick, we talk fatherhood, manhood, and the messy middle between who you were and who you’re becoming. No fluff—just stories, advice, and community to help you make today your Day One.
The Just Call Dad Podcast is about connection, community, and conversations with dads who want to be present, intentional, and real. What started after a doctor’s visit where I thought I was dying has turned into a global conversation about fatherhood, manhood, and the messy middle between who we were and who we’re becoming.
In this episode, I talk about navigating the past, present, and future—from the dad-bod moments and receding hairlines to the deeper emotional stuff we don’t always talk about. I share my journey from starting on a borrowed mic to interviewing incredible dads, and realizing that fatherhood isn’t a solo mission—it’s a team sport.
Whether you’re crushing your goals or just trying to make it through the day, this is a space where you can connect, learn, and remember: Today can be your Day One.

30. SEASONS
Ep. 30 - Camp, Seasons, & The Loss of a friend
Warm up - Camp
• We all have places in our lives we go back to at different checkpoints of our lives.
• We need to have spaces like that we can evaluate our progress and be honest with our ups or downs emotionally.
• Find your own “camp” or check in place you can be honest with yourself.
Workout - Seasons
• Life is seasonal so just be you, and be ok to adjust your energy accordingly.
• Don’t search for the past you, because the current you is amazing, even if you are a mess, embrace it.
• Trust that you’re right where you need to be, but don’t be afraid to make a change too.
Cool Down - Losing a friend
• Losing a friend is hard, and as a dad I feel this loss deeply.
• Talk about your feelings, worries, and things like this… don’t bottle it up.

29. VISION
NO Goal BUT Full of Vision
- Episode 29 (when I recorded it I thought it was 30 hahaha dad fail but so funny... I need more sleep lol) is full of no outline and just talking!
- Dads need more community, conversations, and connections.
- I recorded this episode with the kids noise in the background, and that is how some of these episodes should feel. It is the Just Call Dad Podcast for a reason, we are dads who need to figure out how to manage the daily while managing the mess in our minds.
- The goal of this episode is simple, to show you that we do not always have to have some big goal in life, and this is tough because I am a goal setter. Driven by success, and honestly addicted to winning or competing at things in life. This can either be incredible, or awful, it really comes down to my vision.
- Vision is different than goals or having a goal.
- To have vision means you can see the end and the now. You can understand some of the past, and not seek to understand everything.
- It is like a hidden superpower we all have inside of us, ready, waiting for us to just let go and trust ourselves fully. We need to have media that can replace all the crap out there right now too. So, maybe if we fill up with good stuff, we can find that we trust or believe in ourselvves more each day as dads.
- I am really prone to dumb rabbit holes of time sucking videos, watching too much "fast food" social media or just wasting the few free moments I get because I am just so tired. My brain needs a break. Maybe the JCD podcast can fill a gap in your consumption time with some positive energy, I know I need that too.
