Brave Hearts, Strong Arms: Locker Room Talks for the Only Game That Matters - Jerry Leachman

Today's episode is Jerry Leachman's message from our recent Men's Breakfast, a great event with almost 400 in attendance! He shared from his new book, Brave Hearts, Strong Arms.

Jerry read from Deuteronomy 6:6-7, " These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up."

Brave Hearts, Strong Arms is not about being a perfect man. It's a book about being a committed one—showing up, staying in the fight, and playing for a Head Coach who never leaves the field.  >>Watch on YouTube

What Will You Do With Your Life? - Jerry Leachman

What Will You Do With Your Life? - Jerry Leachman

Once you realize how big God is, is anything too hard for Him?

What's harder for God to pick up one pound or a million pounds? Neither one. Nothing's hard for God. Remember that when you say your prayers. Preach to yourself.

If you take all the teachings of Christ, they can be distilled down to three ways you can spend your life:

  1. You can just waste it. It's like the Lord's given you a bag of tremendous seeds to grow marvelous things and you just walk around. There's a hole in your bag, then the last seed goes out, you're dead. It was like you were never here.
  2. You can sell out. Spend all you have on things for yourself. But on the day you die, who's all this stuff belong to?
  3. You can give your life away. It's what Jesus did. He gave his whole life away for us. You give your whole life to God and you give your whole life to people that God loves. Just give it away.

I want you to check yourself. Are you all in or is this just the religion you believe in? If that's true, you're wasting your life. He wants you to deploy, get in the fray, stay in it till you cross the finish line. Amen.

Luke 6:38, "Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

Prayer Power: The Power That Counts - Jerry Leachman

Prayer Power: The Power That Counts - Jerry Leachman

What happens when we truly understand the power and privilege of prayer?

In this encouraging and challenging message, Richard's guest, Jerry Leachman calls believers to take their prayer lives seriously—not as a religious exercise, but as direct access to the God who created and rules the universe.

Drawing from Scripture, personal experiences, and powerful stories from history, Jerry reminds us that praying in the name of Jesus is powerful, that God looks for a sincere and humble heart, and that forgiveness is essential to a life of effective prayer warrior.

He shares practical ways to develop a consistent prayer life, including keeping a prayer list, using short “breath prayers,” and asking the Holy Spirit to guide us when we don't know what to pray.

Above all, this message is a call to trust God even when we cannot see what He is doing.

As Jerry's closing story reminds us: sometimes we cannot see God, but He can see us. The question is, will we trust Him enough to jump?

2 Chronicles 7:14 tells us, "If my people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land."

A Second Touch - Jerry Leachman

We are re-airing this popular episode by Richard's guest, Jerry Leachman of Leachman Ministries

Are we in the land of the living? Actually, we are in the land of the dying.

My guest today, Jerry Leachman, would tell you that this is a message from a dead man. Five years ago he had a massive heart attack, and experienced what his doctor described as “sudden death”. Jerry tells his story about being with Jesus during that time, and the message that he was impressed with to share with us.

A second touch. A second opportunity to get your life right with God. That's what Jerry got. Could you or someone you love be in need of a second touch from God?

Jesus and heaven are real. They are real. Don’t miss either of them.

What Kind of Friend Are You? - Jerry Leachman

What Kind of Friend Are You? - Jerry Leachman

What kind of friend are you?

I'm going to talk today about something that affects our everyday life. If you have it or if you don't have it, it'll make you or break you. I'm talking about friendship.

The entire Old Testament and the entire New Testament is all about friendship, not religion. Christ is not looking for Christians or religious people—He's looking for friends.

In the Old Testament Abraham was called a friend of God. God is offering us friendship.

Now if a great man called you around his deathbed and he said, "I got a few things I want to tell you. I'm on the way out." Would you listen to that? He is going to give you the good stuff.

These are some of the last words of Jesus before He was arrested, brutally tortured and then murdered. He looks at His guys and a lot of women that were following their band, and He says:

“As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in My love. If you keep My commands, you will remain in My love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in His love. I have told you this so that My joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete." - John 15:9-11

What kind of friend do you have in Christ? He laid it all out there for you.

Are you holding anything back? If you give it all, you'll never be afraid again.

The Significance of Your Life - Richard E. Simmons III

The Significance of Your Life - Richard E. Simmons III

What gives your life lasting significance?

In this encouraging Bible study, we explore what Scripture reveals about God's purpose for every believer and how our value is found not in achievements, status, or circumstances, but in our relationship with Christ.

The word glory is an interesting word in the Old Testament. It comes from a Hebrew word, "kabod", which means "importance or significance." The best English word that we can equate to kabod is this idea "to matter."

Tim Keller believed that every human being cannot live without glory. In other words, we can't live without this deep assurance that we matter, that our lives matter.

Do you realize that your life is important and your life matters?

God designed us to get our identity from Him. In other words, we matter because we matter to Him. Think about these truths from scripture:

  • He loves me with an everlasting love. (Jeremiah 31:3)
  • He wants to teach me what is best for my life. (John 14:26)
  • He wants to give me an abundant life. (John 10:10)

When a man can really get that he matters to God, he can be secure and at peace with his life because he realizes, "I do matter because I matter to God."

Why does my life matter? Because God has pursued us, revealed Himself to us, redeemed us through Christ, and invited us into an eternal relationship with Him. Our significance is not something we achieve—it is something we receive from the God whose glory gives meaning and purpose to our lives.

Psalm 16:11 tells us, "In Your presence is fullness of joy."

Having A Living Faith - Richard E. Simmons III

Having A Living Faith - Richard E. Simmons III

What does it mean to have a living faith?

In the Bible, Paul and James began at different places in the Christian life. Paul begins at the beginning, when a person is considering to become a Christian and enters into a relationship with Christ. Paul says, it happens by putting your faith in Him. It's by grace through faith.

And in James chapter two, after you've entered that relationship by grace through faith, such a man James says, must live a new life. For he is a new creature. He's first justified by grace through faith, and now is beginning the sanctification process of growth.

I've concluded that in order to truly become a Christian, we have to have that living faith that James talks of.
James 2:14-17 tells us, "What use is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone says he has faith, but he has no works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is without clothing and in need of daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and be filled,” yet you do not give them what is necessary for their body, what use is that? In the same way, faith also, if it has no works, is dead, being by itself.

The Remnant - Jerry Leachman

The Remnant - Jerry Leachman

We are re-airing this popular episode by Richard's guest, Jerry Leachman of Leachman Ministries

Scripture tells us that God always saves for Himself a remnant. What about you? What about me? Are you part of the remnant?

Jerry's message is a call to prayer, commitment to Christ and to have a deep, fervent love for our fellow man.

Like Ambrose's Band of Brothers, come together and spur each other on to love and good deeds. Be on the "battlefield", share your faith by loving people, caring for people. Be in each other's lives.

We are the Lord's remnant. Instead of praying for God to get you out of hard places, pray that whatever's ahead of you, that God would help you be faithful and persevere to the end. >>Watch on YouTube

Constant Contact: Practicing God's Call to Pray without Ceasing - The Rev. Dr. Russell J. Levenson, Jr.

Today Richard's guest is Russell Levenson, author and retired Episcopal minister. Russ shares:

The longer I live, I've found I'm still kind of turning things over to the Lordship of Christ. And that is tough. And that requires humility. What am I doing with my time? How am I interacting with others? Does my relationship with others speak of one who walks in Christ?

Prayer is the central avenue God uses to transform us. The primary purpose of prayer is to bring us into a life of communion with the Father. That by the power of the Holy Spirit, we are increasingly conformed into the image of the Son.

Deep down in every human heart, there's a knowledge of God. And deep down in every human heart, there's a desire to communicate with God. Prayer is the main way in which we develop a relationship with our father in heaven. >>Watch on YouTube

How I Survived The 1945 Sinking of the USS Indianapolis - Ed Harrell

In honor of Memorial Day, we are re-airing this popular episode.

Richard's guest is WWII Marine survivor Edgar Harrell, who shared his heroic survival story at one of our Men's Breakfasts in 2019.

At the time, Sergeant Ed Harrell was the last surviving Marine of the USS Indianapolis. Two years after speaking at our event, Harrell passed away at the age of 96.

July 30, 1945: After transporting uranium for the atomic bomb that would soon be dropped on Hiroshima, the USS Indianapolis headed unaccompanied toward a small island in the South Pacific. At 12:14 a.m., she was struck by two Japanese torpedoes, rolled over, and sank.

Harrell vividly describes the horrors of being plagued by dehydration, exposure, saline poisoning, and sharks. This is a story of courage, ingenuity, and faith in God's providence in the midst of the greatest catastrophe at sea in the history of the U.S. Navy.

Father and Son Coaching Session - Jerry Leachman

Father and Son Coaching Session - Jerry Leachman

Who or what gets your time?

Someone shared with me that they once asked Coach Bear Bryant, "Coach, with all these national championships, is there anything you would've done differently?" He said, "Yeah, I missed my family."

My friend said, "You mean you were so busy, you kind of missed them while you were working?"

Coach Bryant answered, "No, I missed it."

You know, this is one stage of your life between father and son. If you miss it, it's a one time event. Today I'm speaking both to you young men and both to your dads back and forth.

God and your family are the things that are gonna last not only through your lifetime, but through generations. Consider doing these 2 things:

1. Be honestly inconsistent. This means resist the temptation to blame or make excuses. Own your mistakes. Learn to trust the Lord and stop trying to control the world.

2. Develop deep abiding relationships with each other. Profound friendships. Now this only happens through laying our life down for each other. You know, the thing about relationships is they can only be developed through shared history, and that takes time.

Lay down your life for each other, and you will become best friends and mutual advisors. That's the dream and the goal to aspire to.

May the Lord bless you and keep you.

As you think back over your life, how many times do you remember saying the Lord's Prayer? Remember this part - "Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done..."

I often wonder, even in my own personal life, when we say The Lord's Prayer, are we just repeating it, or do we really mean it?

Passing Wisdom to Our Children - Richard E. Simmons III

Passing Wisdom to Our Children - Richard E. Simmons III

What final words would you leave to shape the faith and direction of your children for a lifetime?

Drawing from David’s last instruction to Solomon in 1 Chronicles 28:9, this message emphasizes four enduring priorities to pass on to the next generation:

  • deeply knowing God (not merely acknowledging Him),
  • wholeheartedly serving Him,
  • living with right motives that please God rather than self or others, and
  • actively seeking Him with the promise that He will be found.

Through Scripture, illustration, and personal reflection, this study challenges believers to examine their relationship with God, reminding us that spiritual growth and blessing flow from intentional pursuit and obedience—and that we are always only as close to God as we choose to be.

So if your life and legacy were distilled into a single message, would it point others toward truly knowing, serving, and seeking God?

I Chronicles 28 9: "As for you, my son Solomon, know the God of your father and serve Him with a whole heart and a willing mind. For the Lord searches all hearts and understands every intent of the thoughts. If you seek Him, he will let you find Him. But if you forsake Him, He will reject you forever."

Understanding a Man's Heart - Richard E. Simmons III

Understanding a Man's Heart - Richard E. Simmons III

There is a thirst in the soul of every human being that seeks to be satisfied. King David writes in Psalm 42:1-2:

"As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for You, my God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?"

Many people are not looking to God to satisfy their souls. Instead, they are driven and ruled by unsatisfied desires, desperately looking everywhere they can in hopes of finding satisfaction, turning away from the fountain of living water, the only water that can satisfy the thirst of their souls.

We then come up with our own strategy for life. So we come up with ways to make our own cisterns, thinking we can fill those cisterns and we'll find satisfaction and a quenching of the thirst of the soul.

But what does God tell us? He says that the problem with human cisterns is that they're all broken. They leak. They can't truly quench the thirst of the soul.

Today we will discuss three tendencies that seem to creep into a man's life when this happens. As you listen today, think about your own life and how this applies to you.

Manna For The Soul - Dr. Mark Gignilliat

Manna For The Soul - Dr. Mark Gignilliat

What truly satisfies us?

Today we are looking into the book of Psalms. We can find in the Psalms the reality of our human fallenness, our human fickleness, our sinfulness, our need for redemption, and God's offer of love and forgiveness.

The Psalms are like a mountain range–they are the heights. The Psalms are also a valley–they are the depths. In the Psalms you can be met in both places. The book of Psalms is waiting to meet you in the instability and the unfixed character of your own life.

Of all the major themes of the Bible, here in the Psalms you can find the revelation of God and His goodness.

John Donne, the great 17th century English preacher, poet and Dean of St. Paul's Cathedral, famously said that the Psalms are manna for the soul.

For us to understand who we really are requires a knowledge of God and knowing who God is. This in turn sheds a spotlight on who we really are. Studying the Psalms gives this to us.

Knowing God - Richard E. Simmons III

Knowing God - Richard E. Simmons III

How can we know God? Is He knowable?

Yes He is!

Today we're studying Jeremiah --- Many Bible scholars, including Tim Keller, view this as the most famous prophecy of the Bible. Though it was written almost 800 years before Christ was born, the New Testament writer Peter felt this passage was important enough that he wrote it in its entirety in Hebrews.

God is knowable—He is not a god who is hidden. He reveals Himself so that He can be known.

God's Presence in the Life of Esther - Dr. Mark Gignilliat

God's Presence in the Life of Esther - Dr. Mark Gignilliat

In what way does God exist and is He present in the book of Esther? And what does it mean to live life faithfully when God's absence seems to be real?

When Esther has finally become the queen and the crisis is now emerging in the book, her Uncle Mordecai says to her, "Who knows Esther, maybe you became Queen for such a time as this."

That is a claim about God's providence, God's ordering of creaturely human affairs towards His own ultimate redemptive purposes.
