102 - The Power of Partnership

Welcome back to Season 10 of the Recovering Perfectionist Podcast!

In this episode, Christine chats with Dr. Anna Kjose ("Dr. Anna"), a licensed psychologist who specializes in performance psychology for ballroom dancers, performing artists, and other high-performing individuals. Drawing from advanced training in performance psychology, expertise in trauma and the mind-body connection, and firsthand experience as a competitive ballroom dancer, she helps performers develop the psychological skills needed to thrive both on and off the competition floor. She earned her PhD in Counseling Psychology from the University of Oklahoma, where she developed expertise in trauma, emotional regulation, and the mind-body connection. She is also a founding member of a multidisciplinary organization dedicated to supporting the health and well-being of performing artists. Dr. Anna's philosophy is rooted in the belief that exceptional performance and psychological well-being are not competing goals—they strengthen one another. Ballroom dancing presents unique psychological demands because success depends not only on individual excellence, but also on the ability to cultivate healthy, resilient dance partnerships. Helping ballroom dancers build the psychological foundations of performance excellence—through Self, Partnership, and Performance.

Welcome back to Season 9 of the Recovering Perfectionist Podcast!

In this episode, Christine chats with Dr. Meena McCullough, Doctor of Physical Therapy with over 15 years of clinical experience working exclusively with dancers. Meena is the creator of Body Spring, a dance-focused physical therapy and movement education company dedicated to helping adult dancers move better, feel more stable, and stay in the dance longer. Body Spring bridges the gap between rehabilitation and high-level dance performance. The work focuses on fascia, joint mechanics, and whole-body connection, addressing the underlying patterns that lead to stiffness, pain, instability, and recurring injuries.

The goal is simple: to help dancers age athletically, move with confidence, and keep doing what they love.

Meena also invented the The Dance Foot Posture System™, a structured, fascia-based training system created specifically for adult dancers who want to improve performance without pushing through pain or stiffness.

Unlike generic foot exercises or balance tools, this system teaches dancers how to restore internal support from the ground up by retraining foot posture, pressure management, and joint sequencing. The result is better balance in heels, cleaner technique, improved connection through the legs and core, and fewer injuries over time.

Designed for Ballroom, Latin, Smooth, Rhythm, Country, and social dancers, the system is time-efficient, easy to integrate into daily practice, and appropriate for dancers who started later in life or are returning after injury. Many dancers report noticeable changes in how they feel and move within minutes, with deeper, lasting improvements developing over several weeks.

This system is not about doing more. It is about preparing the body so technique can actually land.

095 - It's Never Too Late

Welcome back to Season 9 of the Recovering Perfectionist Podcast!

In this episode, Christine chats with our newest Dance Wellness Community Ambassador, Nina Fisher. Born in Ukraine, Nina moved to the Netherlands at the age of 10.  After high school she moved to one of the most international places; Monte Carlo where she graduated with a Masters of Science in Hedge Funds and Private Equity. She spent 15 years working in finance between Eastern Europe, the Middle East, the U.K (London) and Switzerland (Geneva) where she met her amazing husband Evan. They later moved to the U.S. where Nina became an attorney.

Her life had absolutely nothing to do with dance, but one night Nina saw a video of Nino Dzneladze dancing the Paso Doble and she couldn’t sleep that night. All she could think about was how Nino moved. As any attorney does, Nina did her research. She learned about International Latin and discovered her next inspiration: Anna Kovalova.

Shortly thereafter Nina found her coach Slava Viskanov and started her dance journey at the age of 41. Now 9 months later she's at the studio 6 days a week. Dance has completely taken over her life and changed it for the better. She had the absolutely honor of training with the legendary Anna Kovalova and soon she will be training with the women, who with just one dance, changed her entire life: Nino Dzneladze.Nina's first competition was Hawaii Star Ball. The competition, the location, it was pure magic. She won everything including Best of the Best and did her first interview with SEN 1 Media. Little did she know what it meant winning Best of the Best because her next and only second competition would be Ohio Star Ball. She cried when she walked into that ballroom, it was overwhelming. Nina won Ohio. Apparently it was a big deal but all she could remember was how it made her feel dancing there. Then she flew to Vegas to compete at Holiday Dance Classic. Had the best time ever, met incredible dancers, met dancers that followed her journey on social media. She won again. Nina knows that consistent training has a lot to do with this but one judge told her that her passion for dance shows and that's just as important.

But Nina is still at the very early stages of her journey and she has a lot to learn. Some say she's delusional thinking she could be this incredible dancer considering she started at 41, some say she's obsessed, but Nina says: “I found my true calling and I consider myself extremely lucky because some people never find it.”

In this episode, Christine chats with DWC practitioner, Andy Fitzgerald, who has been competing on the Pro-Am International Latin Style Ballroom Competition circuit since 2020 and loves working with other dancers on preparing themselves to show their best selves out on the ballroom floor. He specializes in yoga, strength training, mindfulness and meditation techniques, and overall competition prep for ballroom competitions. “I have always been a huge fan of ballroom dancing for as long as I can remember. In 2019 after making some major health and lifestyle changes, I decided to do something good for myself and started taking ballroom dance lessons and then proceeded to compete at competitions all of over the country. I was always in relatively “good shape” but now I had a real reason to work on my body. Not for vanity, but for a sport. With a combination of diet, strength training, and yoga, I have been able to change my average dad bod into a dancer bod. In this episode, Christine chats with DWC practitioner, Amber Haider, an educator, coach, fitness professional, mom of 4 and pro/am ballroom dancer, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and Life Coaching certifications. When she turned 40, Amber had a coaching business she was growing and her kids were all in school so on a whim, she decided to try ballroom dancing. Amber credits the Life Coaching tools she was using in her practice for her ability to navigate the ups and downs of ballroom dancing. She has learned that our mind drama is what limits our ability to express our talent and training to the fullest. Many dancers start out loving it, and then somewhere down the line they find themselves miserable. When she coaches you, she leverages joy, but also wants you to be really, really good at dancing! So she remove interferences like self doubt, comparison, and negative self talk and increases confidence, resilience, and mental and emotional control.

In this episode, Christine chats with DWC practitioner, M’balia Tagoe, a life-long dancer, having performed in Ghanaian dance, ballet, modern, and jazz as a youngster before turning her focus to ballroom as an adult. She was moved to begin her financial efficiency coaching work as a result of challenges she herself faced trying to navigate the financing of her dear mother’s care due to progressive cognitive decline. The experience highlighted to her how inadequate conventional financial education is and how to better set herself and her family up for financial success during challenging times. Through her journey, she discovered how to be prepared not only for life’s challenges, but for how to capitalize on life’s opportunities. It became her passion to educate and coach others about these powerful financial strategies that are not commonly known. M’balia brings her considerable problem-solving and communication skills from her three decades of experience as an engineering and construction project manager to bear in her coaching work, guiding business owners, individuals, and their families to achieve their financial goals with certainty. She truly believes that everyone can Be A Financial Icon.

Surrender to the process: new sensations, discomfort, trusting your body

Protect your peace: don’t share everything with everyone, save your energy and protect your space

064 - Anyone Can Create Social Change

Welcome back to Season 6 of the Recovering Perfectionist Podcast!

In this episode, Christine chats with Jacob Reide Jennings, a professional national champion ballroom and Latin dance instructor. In 2016, he turned his passion for  impact investing into a career in real estate, becoming a licensed broker in the state of Florida (Lic. #3353131). Jacob specializes in nonprofit housing strategies, recovery residences, shared housing and investment properties. Jacob uses real estate as a vehicle for social reform to change the conversation surrounding housing insecurity. He supports real estate professionals by showing them how to help their communities and benefit from multiple tax strategies so they can have a return on impact while maximizing their return on investment. Jacob began public speaking at investor conferences in 2017, inspiring new and experienced investors alike with Elite Legacy Education. His entertaining approach encouraged event participants to network in order to scale their businesses. In 2020, Jacob founded the Sherlock’s Homes Foundation, a public 501(c)(3) with a mission to end housing insecurity nationwide. In one year his foundation was able to expand into three states, housing seniors in poverty, non-gender conforming persons, sober housing and also reunite 4 disowned youth with families during a global pandemic. In 2022, His organization, The Sherlock’s Homes Foundation opened homes in Raleigh NC, and Richmond, Va.

Welcome back to Season 5 of the Recovering Perfectionist Podcast!

In this episode, Christine chats with Darcy Guac about traveling on a budget and we share our best travel hacks. Darcy started "We Want Guac" as a guide to wealth for Gen Z. After reaching a high-paying job and a six-figure net worth in her 20s, she has written over 150 articles about managing personal finance as a young professional. She is all about specifically getting more people in their early 20s to begin long-term investing and making the most opportune moves for better compensation - both very important in our times of wage stagnation, high inflation, and worries over the future. Money is a scary topic to wrangle, but it really doesn't have to be.
