By Steve Chazin

Hi, I'm Steve Chazin and I fell in love with technology when I was four years old. My head is often in the sky, dreaming up new ideas and delighted when some become reality. Since it feels like I live a few years in the future, I started Skytech to describe new discoveries and simplify technologies that can improve your life.

What is Apple M1 Pro and M1 Max?

What is Apple M1 Pro and M1 Max?

The M1 Pro and M1 Max is Apple's next generation of its custom silicon chip. The M1 chip was already one of the most powerful systems-on-a-chip (or SOC) and this M1 Pro and M1 Max more than doubled that capability in about a year.  By combining the CPU and GPU to share ultrafast memory, this chip reaches desktop level performance while achieving new battery life milestones. If you think about it, all desktop computers need separate power supplies, video cards, motherboards, memory and fans to deliver good performance - yet an M1 powered MacBook can do all this and more on a battery that lasts all day.  Pretty incredible.

Put this comfortable headset on your face and the built-in stereo screens and stereo speakers will whisk you off to virtual worlds. Or you can play exciting games like Beat Saber, work up a sweat doing virtual exercises, or simply pretend that you're fishing somewhere off a beautiful beach. What is a Pulse Oximeter?

What is a Pulse Oximeter?

A pulse oximeter is a small, non-invasive device, like this one, that measures the percentage of oxygen (or O2) in the blood affixed to the hemoglobin cells within the circulatory system. SPO2 is a reading delivered by the pulse oximeter to indicate how efficiently blood is transporting oxygen throughout the body. SPO2 translates to S for Saturation, P for Pulse (most pulse oximeters also measure your heart rate) and O2 means oxygen.

Not a bad device to have in your home to determine if you or someone you love is breathing well, as respiratory illnesses like COVID-19 start to impact our ability to process oxygen, and is one of the reasons why patients in duress are often first treated with pure oxygen.

What is Podcasting?

What is Podcasting?

Every want to share your thoughts with the world?  Well, that's just what podcasting can let you do in just a few minutes. Grab a good microphone, or just use the one in your phone or computer, and start talking.  Using a service like Anchor by Spotify, simply upload your recording, maybe attach some free background music, and distribute your ideas to the world literally in seconds. I decided to give podcasting a try because it's fast, authentic, and anyone can do it.

Oh, yeah, why is it called podcasting?  Well, if you are old enough to remember when the first Apple iPod came on the scene, suddenly people were carrying all their music in their pocket, and using simple tools it was possible to create your own broadcast and distribute that directly to people's iPods.  Hence iPod + Broadcasting = Podcasting

What is Apple AirTag?

What is Apple AirTag?

Apple AirTag (not AirTags) are cool new devices that you attach to an important item. Now, if you ever misplace that item, you can track it down via the FindMy app on your iPhone if it is nearby. If you lose that important item, you use FindMy to ping AirTag to see where it is on a map, even if you are nowhere close to the AirTag - which is made possible through encrypted information shared from your AirTag, connecting to other people's iPhones who may have passed by the item recently.
