This chapter gives another woe to the inhabitants of Jerusalem. They decided to go their own way and do their own thing separate from God and His word. Judah turned their backs on God and went to make an alliance with Egypt. Isaiah warned them that by doing this all they would accomplish is bringing shame and embarrassment upon themselves. And even though Judah had rebelled against God, God was not done with them yet.

Chapter 29 contains another woe against Jerusalem. Judah will be humbled by the siege of its city. However, God will miraculously deliver them. Despite their continued disobedience, God will work wonders through them. Although men make plans they believe are hidden from God, the Lord has made His own plans that will not be swayed by people or nations.

Chapter 25 is a continuation of chapter 24. In 24, God's judgement takes place. Sin and wickedness are destroyed, and then in chapter 25 the righteous who remain sing praises to God for their salvation. Death is swallowed up, and God will wipe away every tear. The remnant will celebrate this occasion at a great banquet prepared by God for His faithful.

In chapter 6, Isaiah has a vision of the heavenly throne room where he sees God in all HIs glory sitting on the throne. He is surrounded by the seraphim who call out holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts. Isaiah believes he is ruined because of his close proximity to the Holy God. But God removes his iniquity and atones for his sins. And then the Lord gives Isaiah his commission to go and take the word of the Lord to Judah where they will not hear it nor believe it. Judgment is coming, but after they are purified through fire, a remnant, a holy seed will sprout up out of the stump.

The Israelites finally reach Mt. Sinai where God will make His covenant with them and then give them His law. Moses acts as the mediator between God and man and is told to consecrate the people in preparation for the coming of the Lord. The Lord's presence descends upon the mountain in an awesome display of majesty. They are warned not to come close or touch the mountain or they will be put to death. Sinful man cannot come into contact with a holy God without being sanctified first. Jesus's finished work on the cross is what has sanctified us and allows us to not only approach the mountain of God, but to go up and have fellowship with the Lord and enter into His presence for all eternity.

Jethro comes to visit Moses and hears the good news of what God had done. Moses proclaims the gospel and Jethro believes. He praises God, blesses Him, and proclaims that the Lord is God. In the second half of the book Moses sits in judgment over the entire Israelite community, Jethro sees this and tells Moses that this is not healthy, and that he needed to appoint other godly men to help bear the burden of this ministry. Moses listens and does just that, thus setting up a functional governance over Israel.

The Israelites come to a place where the is once again no water. And they grumble and quarrel with Moses. God instructs Moses to go to Horeb with his staff and strike this rock and water will come out. Afterwards, Amalek attacks Israel and Moses sends Joshua and the men out to fight as Moses went up on a hill to watch. When Moses had his staff raised high Joshua would prevail, but when his staff came down Amalek prevailed. So, Aaron and Hur held Moses's arms up until evening and the Israelites won the battle. Moses built an altar and named it the Lord is my banner.

Exodus 12

This is one of the most pivotal chapters in all of scripture. We have the institution of the Passover, the perfect and spotless lamb that is sacrificed for the substitutionary atonement for sin. When God sees the blood of the lamb on the doorposts and lintel, He will Passover that house and death will not come upon it. What also takes place is the actual Exodus itself. The Israelites have been freed from Egyptian slavery and now they are making their way to Mount Sinai where they will worship the Lord God. All of this is of course a foreshadowing of the ultimate substitutionary atonement and freedom from bondage and death we receive through Christ.
