In this episode, we’re joined by the incredible Christopher “Life” Willars!
This was a powerful conversation. Chris takes us through his journey from being a young, aimless man who made one mistake and was sentenced to 144 years in prison in 2003 for robbery — to ultimately being released after serving nearly 17 years. He shares how he used his natural leadership and resilience to survive and grow behind bars.
Since his release, Chris and his wife have launched Lasting Layers of Beauty, a cosmetic vocational school outside Atlanta, GA. He also founded a nonprofit while still incarcerated and now works as a content creator, public speaker, and advocate for prisoners’ rights and mental health. On top of that, he creates hilarious and eye-opening videos about life behind bars and the wild situations that can arise.
Note: This interview was originally recorded in October 2024 — and I’m sorry it’s taken me this long to release it, but trust me, it was worth the wait.

While the Gregorian calendar is seen by many as a useful tool of order and efficiency, our guest argues that it's actually a chaotic system full of inconsistencies that disconnect us from natural rhythms and time itself.
We explore the history of calendar reform efforts, including proposals from the 1930s through the 1950s—like the Kodak calendar, which proposed a simplified year of 13 months, each with exactly four 7-day weeks. These ideas aimed to create more consistency and harmony in how we track time, but were ultimately rejected, possibly due to the massive cultural and institutional inertia tied to our existing system.
Our guest introduces a compelling alternative: a calendar based on 73-day seasonal blocks that align more closely with natural transitions. Starting the year on the winter solstice, this system reveals seasonal patterns that feel more intuitive—like the midpoint of the year naturally falling on the summer solstice. By breaking away from the arbitrary 12-month, uneven system, this model offers a new framework for understanding time with precision and clarity.
