Because He Lives // Eric Gray
Do you remember the feeling of waking up the morning after something incredible happened? Like the morning after graduation, when the tassel is turned, and the future feels wide open… Those are mornings where nothing has changed around you, but everything has changed within you. Have you ever thought about how the disciples of Jesus must have felt the morning after they saw Jesus – alive? It must have felt like waking up in a brand-new world. That’s exactly what Peter wants us to experience in 1 Peter 1:3-9. He wants us to see life through Resurrection Eyes. Here is what is different about you today…1. You are an heir to permanent inheritance.2. You are empowered to endure trials with purpose. 3. You are filled with joy the world cannot touch.

Jesus Saved Me From... Destruction // Jesus Saved Me From Series // Eric Gray
Jesus Saved Me From… Death / Destruction05 • Jesus Saved Me From… SeriesGalatians 5:16-26You know when you’re eating chips, and you tell yourself, “Just one more”? Before you know it, you’ve eaten half the bag. It doesn’t feel like a big deal in the moment, but the next thing you know, you’re wearing sweatpants more often than you'd like and regretting that one extra chip. But a lack of discipline is seen in other areas of our lives, especially our spiritual lives. Like when we neglect regular time in prayer, Scripture reading, or fellowship with believers. It’s like Paul said in Galatians 5:7, “You were running well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth?”There are three forces that are working to hinder us from obeying the truth: (1) Legalism, (2) Others, and (3) Our Desires. The sad reality is that we are doomed to our own destruction. Because we are in a losing battle with our desires. Until Jesus stepped in and rescued us. He provided (1) grace for when we fail, (2) brothers and sisters in Christ, and (3) the Holy Spirit. Walking with the Spirit will keep us from wandering into the world and our own desires.

Jesus Saved Me From... Slavery // Jesus Saved Me From Series // Eric Gray
04 • Jesus Saved Me From… SeriesGalatians 4:21-5:1On January 1, 1863, while the United States was in the middle of a Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, freeing anyone enslaved. In Galatians 4, Paul wrote a letter to a group of Christians in Asia Minor to remind them that Jesus, through his death, burial and resurrection, also issued an Emancipation Proclamation. We have been freed from the power and control of our spiritual slavery. But we have a choice to make – A choice between living under the elements of the world or as a child of God.So Paul reminds us of two powerful truths:1. Don’t return to the chains that Jesus broke.2. Jesus didn’t set you free to live in bondage to others. “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery” (Ephesians 5:1).

Jesus Saved Me From... Myself // Jesus Saved Me From Series // Eric Gray
03 • Jesus Saved Me From… SeriesGalatians 3:1-29 Sometimes we can be our own worst enemy. Like when you know you need to go to bed because you have an important / busy day the next day, but you stay up way too late watching Netflix or scrolling social media. Or you snoozed the alarm one too many times, and now you’re running late and you’re feeling stressed. But our self-sabatoging doesn’t just show up in those ways, it is seen in our spiritual lives too. That’s what Paul is addressing in Galatians 3 – how Jesus saves us from ourselves. 1. Jesus saves me from my self-reliance (Galatians 3:1-5)2. Jesus saves me from myself-condemnation (Galatians 3:10-14)3. Jesus saves me from my self-centeredness (Galatians 3:26-29)

Jesus Saved Me From... Hypocrisy // Jesus Saved Me From Series // Eric Gray
02 • Jesus Saved Me From… SeriesGalatians 2:11-21Have you ever thought about how much of our life is based on performance? Whether you are dating someone, trying to do well at your job or at school, even maintaining healthy relationships, sometimes we can feel the pressure to perform… to always be at our best. But performing is exhausting. It’s isolating and a burden we weren’t meant to carry. In Galatians 2, Paul confronted Peter to his face because Peter was acting like a hypocrite. The word “hypocrite” means a play actor. Peter was being two-faced. He was acting one way around Jewish Christians and another around Gentile Christians. He was performing. He was being a fake. It reminds us that hypocrisy is a real struggle for every Christian. But Jesus saved us from performance-based living. He has set us free from the burden of maintaining an image because we have been “crucified with Christ” (Galatians 2:20).

Jesus Saved Me From... People Pleasing // Jesus Saved Me From Series // Eric Gray
01 • Jesus Saved Me From… SeriesGalatians 1:1-10We are living in a culture of conformity. This pressure to conform impacts our faith, our identity, and our standards for morality. “Peer pressure” isn’t something that only teenagers struggle with. It is a challenge for Christians of all ages. And we aren’t the first group of Christians to struggle with it. In fact, the pressure to conform has been a challenge for God’s people all throughout the Old Testament as well. Paul wrote a letter to a group of churches in Galatia in the mid 50’s while on a missionary journey. This letter is direct. It is challenging. It gets right to the point. Today we will look at the opening section where Paul will show us that the Gospel sets us free from people-pleasing (compromising) – Galatians 1:6-10. Because the Gospel gives us a new identity. Because the Gospel gives us a new authority. Because the Gospel gives us rest in a new security.

Love Has No Fear // Love Does Series // Eric Gray
In 1979, a summer blockbuster film named “Jaws” became the highest grossing film of all time. The main character was a mechanical replica of a human-eating great white shark. Unfortunately, the mechanical shark constantly broke down. So the director “shot around” the shark and implied its presence with music that won many awards. Once the shark was seen on the screen at the end of the movie, it was kind of a relief. Jaws wasn’t nearly as intimidating once you saw him. That’s how fear works. Fear operates best in the dark. It grows in our minds, distorts reality, and manipulates our decisions. But 1 John 4:18 says, “There is no fear in love. Perfect love drives out fear.”As we close the “Love Does” series, what we will see is that the love of Christ exposes our fears and strips it of its power. As a result, your heart will be filled with God’s love so that there’s no room left for fear.

Love Forgives // Love Does Series // Eric Gray
Have you ever wondered what it must have felt like for Simon when Jesus nicknamed him “Peter” in Matthew 16:18? The nickname “Peter” meant “the rock.” Imagine being called “the Rock” by Jesus!?! You could imagine that Simon took this new name very seriously. That may have made his moments of failure even more difficult. Like when he sunk like a rock after walking on water in Matthew 14 because of a lack of belief. Or when he rebuked Jesus because he couldn’t wrap his mind around Jesus being crucified, and Jesus strongly rebuked Simon because he had become a “stumbling block” in Matthew 16. Or when he denied knowing Jesus three times on the night that Jesus was arrested. 1 Corinthians 13:5 says that “love keeps no record of wrongs.” Because love understands that failure is a part of the growth process. Love doesn’t see us for who we are now, but who we are becoming. That’s why Jesus was able to pray for Peter before his moments of failure and remind Peter even after he had failed to “strengthen his brothers” (Luke 22:31-32). That’s what love does. Love forgives.

Love Listens // Love Does Series // Eric Gray
It’s possible that one of the most overused and out-of-context words in the English language is the word “Love.” With the same word, we express our love for a spouse and our children. With the same word, we express our love for one another. And with the same word, we express our love for fried chicken. Maybe you’ve complimented someone by saying, “I love your outfit!” or even “I love your shoes!” One of the challenges of using the same word in so many different contexts is that it diminishes the power of the word. But even greater than that, we’ve turned love into a feeling instead of what it was originally designed to convey – ACTION. Because love is not just a feeling, but an active act. For the next several weeks, we are going to look at the “love chapter” of the Bible in 1 Corinthians 13, paired with scenes from the life of Jesus, to see what love does. Today we will see that love listens based on 1 Corinthians 13:4 where Paul wrote, “Love is patient and kind.”

Just Family // Just Jesus Series // Eric Gray
Family is one of God’s greatest gifts, but let’s be honest – it’s also one of His most challenging gifts. It starts with marriage where God takes two completely different people and says, “Why don’t you two learn to figure out how to make life work as one?” Then comes the babies. And suddenly, you’re responsible for tiny humans who don’t come with an instruction manual and seem to have inherited the worst qualities of both of you. Family is a wild, beautiful, complicated thing. It’s full of love, but it’s also full of conflict, chaos, and constant opportunities to grow. Family can bring out the best in us, but it can also bring out the worst. That’s why we need Jesus. Just Jesus. Because he doesn’t just save individuals – He transforms families. Jesus told a story in Luke 15 about God’s family. And just in case you think it is the story of a perfect family, it is far from it. But in this story we’ll see two important truths: 1. A changed identity results in changed relationships. 2. A changed identity results in a changed perspective.

Just Peace // Just Jesus Series // Eric Gray
Our lives are filled with turning points. On your drive here today, you probably turned multiple times. But then there are turning points in life where everything changes. Maybe it was a career decision, a relationship, the birth of a baby, or even a moment of crisis that changed your direction in life. Turning points can be very exciting. But they are also filled with uncertainty, tension, or even grief. Turning points have the potential to steal our peace. Because of the fear of the unknown. Or the feeling of being unprepared. Some turning points bring emotional turmoil like disappointment or grief. And some turning points require decisions with long-term consequences. We can find ourselves paralyzed by the weight of “making the right choice.” The book of 1 Samuel is itself a turning point in Israel’s history. It marks the transition from the period of the Judges to Israel’s first king. As this powerful story begins, we meet a woman named Hannah who is herself at a crossroads. What Hannah learned is what you and I would do well to learn also: True peace is found in the presence of God.

Just Change // Just Jesus Series // Eric Gray
In May of 2023, the United States Surgeon General issued a report describing the “loneliness epidemic.” It is an epidemic that has affected young people, middle aged adults, and senior adults. It is a struggle for many because we were hard-wired by God for human connections. Last week we introduced the theme for 2025: Just Jesus. Jesus is just what we need for the challenges and situations that we will experience this year. Jesus is the answer to our loneliness. In Mark 10, at the very end of the chapter, we read about a man named Bartimaeus who knew what it was like to be lonely. He was a blind beggar. When he heard Jesus was walking by, he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me.” Jesus healed him of his vision, and Bartimaeus began to follow Jesus. But as he began to follow Jesus, he also joined Jesus’ community of followers. His life was changed by the supremacy of Jesus, and his life was also changed by the community of Jesus. If you are experiencing loneliness, what you need is Jesus. And with Jesus, you will receive a family as well.

Just What We Need // Just Jesus Series // Eric Gray
The start of a new year is also a good time to reflect on the changes we need to make and the goals we need to set. Whose life wouldn’t be improved by living healthier and more active, becoming more disciplined and stable and generous financially, decluttering all the junk and spending more time with those we love the most? But what if we still were missing out on what we needed the most? Today we will look at the story of a man from the Bible who didn’t know it, but Jesus was just what he needed so that we can be reminded that Jesus is just what we need too. Acts 3:1-10 tells the story of a man paralyzed from birth. He was begging for money and asked Peter and John if they had any spare change. Peter told him, “I have no silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk!” Jesus’ name is not just a word but a declaration of hope, healing, and salvation. When we call on the name of Jesus, we’re not just speaking a word; we’re declaring that we believe in His power to bring hope where there’s despair, healing where there’s brokenness, and salvation where there’s sin.

Immerse Yourself In His Life // King Jesus Series // Eric Gray
Identity creates clarity. Knowing who you are and whose you are will create a pathway for what you should do. Having a clear identity matters.
