RACT Episode 8 - Melissa and Peter McGuiness
In 2012, Melissa and Peter McGuinness’ son Jordan was involved in a vehicle incident that resulted in his death, and the death of four others.
He was speeding and under the influence of alcohol and marijuana.
Since then, Melissa and Peter have gone on to establish YOU CHOOSE, a program centered around youth road safety that advocates for changed driving behaviors.

RACT Episode 7 - Callan Hume
While riding his motorbike through a traffic light intersection 15 years ago, Callan Hume’s life changed in an instant when a driver ran a red light and crashed into him.
In this episode Callan speaks openly about his emotions, including his feelings around the driver that crashed into him. He also speaks to the countless surgeries and lengthy physical and emotional path to recovery he’s endured.
While many years may have passed since his accident, at times in this episode Callan’s words are a raw, honest reminder of all that he’s endured.

RACT Episode 6 - Paul Allen
Thirty years ago at the end of a white-water rafting trip, engineering graduate Paul Allen was still wet from being in the water, so found himself riding atop a moving trailer as they made their way back upstream. The vehicle lost control, and the trailer flipped with Paul trapped underneath. His head collided with a concrete culvert.
In this episode we’ll get frank with Paul, as he speaks about his life with an acquired brain injury, and the physical and emotional challenges he’s faced through the journey to recovery.

TIS Episode 9 - Scott Bowden
Scott is an Olympian who competes both in road races and mountain bike races, so essentially there isn’t anything he can’t do on a bike.
Scott was selected for the RIO Olympics for the mountain bike event and ended up also racing in the Road Race on day 1 of competition assisting Ritchie Port in his quest for a gold medal.
Fresh off a 5th placing in the 100km mountain bike race in New Zealand, Scott shares his extensive experience as a professional cyclist and a mountain biker.
Hear how growing up in hilly Tasmania put him in good stead to compete at the highest level, what it’s like going downhill at 80km per hour and what he is most proud of so far in his career.

TIS Episode 8 - Rubie Gallagher
Ruby was living an adventurous life studying over in Europe when a freak diving accident during a trip back home in Tassie changed her life. Ruby broke her neck and became a quadriplegic.
Ruby is fluent in French and is also a professional illustrator. She is an incredibly courageous and resilient women who found a love for Wheelchair Rugby after being recruited by Australian Coaches from her hospital bed during her rehabilitation.
Hear what it’s like competing with and against men in a sport which she describes as a combination between ‘Ice Hockey, Rugby and Bumper cars’ and how the para-athlete community has embraced her with open arms.
TIS Episode 7 - Jacob Despard
Fresh off a 4-month stint competing overseas racing in Hong Kong and Europe, Jacob gives us insight into the day-to-day life of a professional Sprinter and how his aggressive cricket run up as fast bowler shifted into a career in athletics.
He talks about the challenge of transitioning from a successful junior athlete to competing against men. How he took a year away from athletics to rediscover his passion for running and then came back and won the famous Stawell Gift race.
Jacob competed at the Birmingham Games in the relay and takes us into the technical world of arcing. Jacob‘s goal in 2024 is to break the sub 10 second barrier, which has only been achieved by one other Australian Patrick Johnston, and to qualify for Paris.
TIS Episode 6 - Sarah Hawe
Sarah competed in the Tokyo Olympics in the women’s 8 rowing team and has just qualified her women’s 4 boat to compete at the Paris Olympic Games later this year.
A qualified veterinarian and baking enthusiast, Sarah had an invincible year with the Women’s 4 boat in 2017 going the entire year undefeated including becoming a World Champion.
Hear how Sarah is preparing for Paris at the National Training center in Penrith and why she believes a ‘Happy athlete is a performing athlete.’
TIS Episode 5 - Josh Beltz
Josh made his debut for the Kookaburras in 2015 and has since competed at multiple Olympic, Commonwealth Games and World Championships winning multiple medals.
Josh is an AIS Mental Health Fitness Program Ambassador and a qualified Mechanical Engineer. TIS Episode 3 - Deon Kenzie
Deon was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy at 2 years of age and required extensive and ongoing rehabilitation and physiotherapy programs as a young boy.
Cousin to former AFL players Jade and Brady Rawlings, Deon says the desire to play sport ran through his veins. Deon discovered his love for running by doing laps around his paddock at home and is now a World Record breaking, 2 time Paralympian.
Join us as we gain an insight into Deon’s training life, his passion for advocating for para-athletes and what’s next for him in 2024 in the lead up to Paris.

Originally a hockey player, Felicity went to a TIS Talent ID camp where it was clear she had potential as a cyclist.
Fast forward two years and Felicity became the Junior Time Trial World Champion in 2023 and has just signed a contract with one of the world’s best cycling teams Lidl-Trek and will compete on the World Tour at just age 19.

Episode 50 - Dewayne Everettsmith
It took me a while to track down my next guest, proud Aboriginal man, singer and songwriter, Dewayne Everettsmith.
However, I finally found him and what a privilege it was to have him on Get Frank.
I have met Dewayne multiple times at events, he still to this day always delivers the most moving and beautiful welcome to country I have ever seen. His soft nature and amazing voice really does captivate you.
Dewayne was born in 1987 to a Mother with a drug addiction, he then had a strained relationship with those that adopted him, which lead to many challenges as a young Aboriginal man including anger issues.
Through all of this, the unconditional love received from his grandparents that guided him to a life of healing and fulfilment.
In this episode Dewayne shares all, talking about closing the gap, how we can learn more about aboriginal history, trauma from his upbringing, his love of music and how that saved him, racism, and the important work he does every day in our communities to educate and keep people safe.
What an amazing man Dewayne Everettsmith is!
An episode totally worth listening to, and one we should all pass on for our friends to hear!

Episode 49 - Ryan Wiggins and Lou Calvert
2 years ago Ryan Wiggins suffered a devastating spinal cord injury after diving into a pool.
Exactly 1 year ago he joined the podcast to tell all, and move us with his incredible outlook on life.

Ryan and Lou make it really clear as to why we should not only forever support Ryan's recovery, but understand and support spinal cord injury sufferers all across the world.
Oh, and hear how caring for Ryan lead to the two of them now falling in love - simply amazing!

A Tasmanian lifeline is a telephone support service for Tasmanians of all ages who need someone to talk things through with, or just need someone to listen.
They are a Tasmanian-focused and Tasmanian based service offering one-off or ongoing support for anyone having a tough time.
If you are experiencing loneliness, isolation, feeling anxious or overwhelmed you are not alone and can speak to one of their highly skilled support workers who can provide a friendly voice to reassure you.
Ben sat with me to unpack the service, share with me some of the amazing things it offers, and talk about how important it is to be okay with making calls to such services.
You can call A Tasmanian Lifeline on 1800 98 44 34 from 8am to 8pm every day of the year or alternatively book a call back via their online booking form at atasmanianlifeline.com.au - You don’t have to go through a difficult situation alone.

Mel Carroll joined me to recap her struggles as a younger person with major self-esteem issues. These issues lead to an eating disorder, mental health challenges, and even down the path of devising a plan to take her own life, as she devastatingly felt that suicide was her only option. Mel bravely shares her challenges, but also the incredible story of resilience as she accepted her demons (all with the support and acceptance of her amazing Mum) and found a way to now live a life that is healthy, clearer, and much more positive - all whilst now being over 50 kilograms lighter :) We talked about overcoming adversity, acceptance of oneself, the power in being supported (and supporting others), professional services and the impact they have, strategies around motivation, and much more.
