#133 You Deserve Clothes That Fit. Fashion from an Anti-Diet Lens with Dacy Gillespie @mindfulcloset

In today's episode, we talk with Dacy Gillespie, an online personal stylist, about the messages that we have received about what we "should" and "shouldn't" wear based on our body, age, and weight so we can unpack them and connect more to our authentic style and self-expression.

Clothing plays a big role in our body image and healing journey, so I know you are going to get a lot out of this episode!

Topics we cover:

  • What "flattering" really means
  • The role patriarchy and White Supremacy have in clothing messages and choices
  • The oppressive messages we get about what to wear and how to work through them
  • The problem with hanging on to clothes that don't fit
  • What do to about an ever-changing body as we age
  • Why you deserve to buy clothes that fit
  • The process of updating your wardrobe to work for you
  • And so much much!

#97 Why I Am a Thin Ally to Fat Acceptance

#97 Why I Am a Thin Ally to Fat Acceptance

"The best-known environmental contributor to the development of eating disorders is the sociocultural idealization of thinness"- NEDA. And you can not idealize thinness without the devaluation of fatness.  Girls as young as three start to express concerns over their weight and body image.

In this episode, I share the importance of fighting for fat acceptance and fat positivity and why I can not separate my advocacy for recovery from eating disorders, food freedom, and body liberation without also advocating to end weight stigma and discrimination.

#91 Physical vs Emotional Hunger & How to Nourish Both with Dr. Anita Johnston

#91 Physical vs Emotional Hunger & How to Nourish Both with Dr. Anita Johnston

In this episode, I interview Dr. Anita Johnston, author of one of my all-time favorite eating disorder recovery books, Eating in The Light of The Moon. We talk extensively about how our relationship with food can give us clues as to what we each need in order to heal. As an Eating Psychology Expert, she walks us through the difference between physical & emotional hunger and what we need to do to address all of our needs. Using metaphors and storytelling, Dr. Johnston brings a new perspective to the podcast. We also explore the Masculine & Feminine energies (not to be confused with gender) in our culture and why that is a huge contributing factor for the rampant nature of Diet Culture.

#90 A Parents Guide to Intuitive Eating, Raising Kids Free From Diet Culture and Fatphobia in the Medical Field with Dr. Yami Cazorla-Lancaster

In this episode, I chat with Dr. Yami about fatphobia in the medical field and education system, the role nutrition and movement play in health and disease prevention as well as how to raise children as confident eaters connected to their intuition. As a mom of two and a pediatrician, she has incredible insight for parents who want their kids to maintain intuitive eating as the grow up. She shares the most common mistakes parents make that influence diet culture, disordered eating, and body shame in their kids, often without meaning to or realizing it. She also shares with us the foundational principles that you can start implementing right away in your own home to improve the overall health, well-being, and relationship to food & body for you and your kids. And as a Health At Every Size advocate she explains why so many doctors are fatphobic.
