Becoming the CEO of Your Health

Becoming the CEO of Your Health

"You can't force your way through life’s biggest shifts — that only leads to burnout."
When life demands more, the quiet truth is: leadership starts with self-awareness and choosing strategy over hustle.
Last year, Leanne was juggling a career milestone with a painful breakup, and realized: performance isn’t enough.
It’s about leadership—knowing when to push, when to pause, and when to get support.
Your body and mind are your ultimate CEOs—treat them with that same strategic mindset.
Have you trusted your nervous system to guide your next move?
Or are you overriding your signals just to keep up?
Remember, true control isn’t about doing everything alone — it’s about knowing what to delegate, ask for help, and prioritize.
Because the moment you surrender, you step into your power as a leader of your own life.
Worth thinking about.
What’s one area you could let go of control today?

Real Talk About Midlife with Marcella Hill

Real Talk About Midlife with Marcella Hill

In this episode, I’m talking with Marcella Hill about the stuff a lot of women are dealing with… but way too many of us are still whispering about: perimenopause, libido, mood, hormones, and what actually helps.

Marcella shares her personal story—how low libido and mental health struggles became a wake-up call, and how hormone therapy ended up being a turning point. We get into the stigma (why women are taught to keep this quiet), what it looks like to find a provider who takes you seriously, and how social media can mess with your perception of your body and what “normal” is supposed to feel like.

We also talk about the Balance docu-series and why education matters so much when it comes to hormone therapy—because the misinformation is loud, and it keeps women stuck.

If you’ve ever thought, “Something feels off… but I don’t know what to do next,” this episode is for you. Marcella’s message is simple: trust your instincts, advocate for yourself, and don’t put your well-being last.

2025 Reflections & Lessons

2025 Reflections & Lessons

Six years into this podcast and if I’ve learned anything, it’s this: you don’t wait until you feel ready — you start, you stumble, you cringe a little… and you keep going anyway.

This year handed me some lessons I did not ask for. It stretched me, stripped me, shook things loose, and forced me to grow in ways I probably would’ve avoided if given the choice. I had to let go of what wasn’t working — in my business, in my habits, in my own mind — so I could make space for what’s next.

I also had to change how I coach. Not because the old way was wrong, but because we’ve evolved. You’ve evolved. I’ve evolved. And supporting women in midlife means adapting right along with you.

In this episode, I’m reflecting on the bright spots, the breakthroughs, and the “okay… I guess this is where we are now” moments. Life, business, hormones — everything is always shifting. But so are we.

Here’s to new beginnings, cleaner slates, softer landings, and the community that makes all of this feel a little less lonely.

Give it a listen and let me know what your biggest bright spot of the year has been.

Midlife Isn’t the Problem—Missing Information Is with Laini Gray

In this episode of Far From Perfect, I sit down with functional diagnostic nutrition practitioner Lainey Gray to talk about something so many women feel but can’t quite name: midlife isn’t the problem—the lack of information is.

Lainey shares her journey from personal trainer to functional nutrition expert and breaks down why understanding your hormones, stress load, and nutritional needs is the key to finally feeling like yourself again. We dive into the power of comprehensive testing, simple lifestyle shifts that actually matter, the role HRT can play, and why advocating for your own health is non-negotiable in perimenopause and menopause.

If you’ve ever walked out of a doctor’s office feeling dismissed…
If you’ve ever been told “that’s just aging”…
If you’ve ever thought, “something feels off, but I can’t get answers”…

This conversation will feel like a giant exhale.

Midlife doesn’t have to feel confusing, chaotic, or out of control. Once you have the right information, you can rebuild your energy, your joy, and your confidence—one empowered decision at a time.

Why I Started Tracking My Macros Again

In this episode, I share why I decided to start logging my food again after a long stretch in maintenance. Not from a place of restriction — but awareness.

I talk about noticing shifts in my training motivation, how consistent eating affects my energy levels, and why tracking macros is less about perfection and more about curiosity.

I also touch on the role of self-monitoring, small healthy habits, and even how sleep and “fun” fit into the bigger wellness picture.

If you’ve been feeling a little off or wondering where your energy’s going, try logging your food for a few days — you might be surprised by what you learn. And if you need a little guidance, I’m here to help.

In this episode, I break down one of the trickiest parts of a fat loss phase—knowing when it’s time to call it. I also share why shifting goals means your nutrition needs to shift, too—and how consistency with tracking helps you see the full picture. The Truth About How Many Calories You're Burning

The Truth About How Many Calories You're Burning

In this episode of 'Far From Perfect', host Kylie Larson delves into the intricacies of metabolism and total daily energy expenditure (TDEE). She explains how understanding TDEE can empower individuals to break free from chronic dieting and the ineffective 'eat less, exercise more' mentality. The conversation highlights the importance of protein intake, muscle building, and the body's natural energy balance, especially as one ages. Kylie emphasizes that diets often fail because they lead to muscle loss and a slower metabolism, ultimately making weight loss more difficult. She encourages listeners to prioritize their health and metabolism to thrive in their later years.

Takeaways

  • Total daily energy expenditure is crucial for understanding metabolism.
  • Chronic dieting can lead to a lower metabolic rate.
  • Eating less can decrease the thermic effect of food.
  • Muscle mass is essential for a healthy metabolism.
  • Prioritizing protein helps maintain muscle during weight loss.
  • Non-exercise activity thermogenesis contributes significantly to calorie burn.
  • Exercise alone is not an effective weight loss strategy.
  • The body adapts to lower calorie intake, making weight loss harder.
  • Maintaining a healthy metabolism is vital to prevent metabolic diseases.
  • Strength training is essential, especially during perimenopause.

The Scale Is Not a Liar

The Scale Is Not a Liar

It just doesn't tell the whole story.

In this episode of Far From Perfect, Kylie discusses the complexities of using the scale as a tool for tracking weight loss and body composition. She emphasizes the importance of understanding the data behind the scale, how to use it effectively during fat loss and maintenance phases, and the emotional challenges that come with weighing oneself. Kylie encourages listeners to detach their self-worth from the number on the scale and focus on overall body composition and health instead.

Takeaways

The scale provides valuable data for tracking progress.

Emotions can cloud judgment; data helps clarify decisions.

Weight is not inherently good or bad; it's just information.

Tracking weight frequently can desensitize emotional reactions.

Your goal body may weigh more than your ideal weight.

Building muscle can lead to an increase in scale weight.

Maintenance weight should be viewed as a range, not a single number.

Understanding fluctuations in weight is crucial for long-term success.

Data analysis is essential for effective coaching and self-coaching.

Not knowing your numbers can lead to increased anxiety.
