Richard Willy - Runner's Knee
Randall Cooper is joined by Richard Willy to discuss 'runner's knee', also known as 'knee cap pain' and 'patellofemoral pain'.
Richard is an Associate Professor in the School of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science, University of Montana (Missoula, MT, USA). He received his PhD in Biomechanics and Movement Science from the University of Delaware. Richard has been a clinician for over 20 years with expertise in treating runners of all ages and ability levels.
His research aims to develop clinically effective treatments for persons with patellofemoral pain, Achilles tendon injuries, and bone stress injuries. He has publishes over 50 peer-reviewed papers on two populations: endurance runners and tactical athletes such as Soldiers. He has received funding to support his work from the United States Department of Defence and the Foundation for Physical Therapy.

Dr Alannah McKay - Are you an Elite Athlete?
Randall Cooper is joined by Dr Alannah McKay to discuss a new classification framework for athletes.
Alannah completed a Bachelor of Science in Exercise, Health and Sports Science at the University of Western Australia in 2014 and went onto complete a post-graduate position within the Physiology department at the Australian Institute of Sport. Since then, Alannah has submitted her PhD titled "The Effect of Dietary Manipulation on Iron Metabolism and the Immune System in Elite Athletes", which was undertaken in partnership with the Australian Institute of Sport, Western Australian Institute of Sport and the University of Western Australia.
Alannah joined Australian Catholic University as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in 2020. Her research continues to explore the impact of diet and exercise on a range of health and performance outcomes in athletes, with a specific interest in iron metabolism.

Luke Nelson - More than Distance: Optimising Training Loads
Randall Cooper is joined by Luke Nelson to discuss optimising training loads in running.
Luke is a titled Sports & Exercise Chiropractor, who has worked in private practice in Melbourne for 17 years. He has presented widely across Australia & Internationally on various sport injury related topics, primarily focusing on running.
A keen fitness enthusiast himself, Luke's current number one love is running, completing 5 marathons, an ultra-marathon and 2 Iron Man triathlons. Luke fulfils a number of committee roles including President of Sports Chiro Australia and Vice President of Sports Medicine Australia (Victorian Committee).
His postgraduate qualifications include International Sports Chiropractic Practitioner, Postgraduate Diploma in Sports Chiropractic, Masters of Sports Science & ASCA Level 1.

Mick is an Australian trained physiotherapist who has recently passed advanced training to become a Sports & Exercise Physiotherapist. He has a strong clinical interest in ACL injury prevention and rehabilitation, and sees between 20-30 ACL patients per week; ranging from the acutely injured all the way to 10+ years post ACL reconstruction. on top of his clinical workload, he is also the co-founder of both the Melbourne ACL Rehabilitation Guide and Learn.Physio (www.learn.physio) - an online continuing education platform for health professionals.

Peter is an Australian sports physician, author and real food advocate. He's recently been doctor to the Australian cricket team and Liverpool Football Club, is the founding partner of Olympic Park Sports Medicine Centre in Melbourne and Professor of Sports Medicine at La Trobe University. Peter is the co-author of the widely used text book 'Clinical Sports Medicine', Chair of the non-for-profit charity 'SugarByHalf', and chairperson at the app-based program 'Defeat Diabetes'.

Shona Halson - How Much Sleep Does an Elite Athlete Need?
Randall Cooper is joined by Shona Halson to discuss how much sleep athletes need.
Shona is from ACU's School of Behavioural and Health Science and prior to this was the Head Recovery Physiologist at the Australian Institute of Sport for over 15 years and has been a part of three Olympic campaigns with the Australian Olympic Committee. Her research focuses on sleep, recovery and fatigue and she has published over 140 peer-reviewed articles.
Shona is an Associate Editor for the International Journal of Sports Physiology and Performance and consults to the Australian Open Tennis Tournament and Nike. Shona also consults to a number of national and international professional sporting teams.

Dr Matt Whalan - Do Niggles Matter?
Randall Cooper is joined by Dr Matt Whalan to discuss those little aches and pains, also known as niggles - and whether they matter.
Matt is a physiotherapist, applied research and sport scientist from Wollongong, Australia. He is a principle partner at Figtree Physiotherapy and has been working in clinical practice for 17 years. He's worked with athletes of all levels - across a number of sports including football (soccer), rugby league, AFL, cricket, triathlon and dance medicine.
Matt completed his PhD in injury prevention in 2020, in addition to having a Masters of Physiotherapy and a degree in Exercise Science & Rehabilitation.
Most recently however, Matt has taken on a role at Football Australia (FA) to design and implement the new national Player Availability Model and the FA Perform+ and Fundamentals+ program. Additionally, Matt also works with the Australia national teams, including the recent Socceroos World Cup qualifiers and Olyroos 2020 Tokyo campaign, as a team physiotherapist.

Dr Rebecca Robinson - Long COVID in Athletes
Randall Cooper is joined by Rebecca Robinson to discuss recovery times and the prolonged impact of COVID-19 on athletes.
Dr Rebecca is a Consultant Physician in Sport and Exercise Medicine with a special interest in female athlete health and also oncology. Rebecca splits her time between the England Institute of Sport (EIS), the National Health Service (NHS) and her clinical time at the Centre for Health and Human Performance in London.
Her current clinical work covers musculoskeletal medicine, sport and exercise medicine for elite athletes and also event medicine. Recently, Rebecca has been running a 'Long COVID' clinic helping patients get back to exercise safely.
Rebecca is an accomplished runner and Randall is delighted to have her on the podcast.
