Women's Health: LARC, EMA and the AusCAPPS Network - Professor Danielle Mazza AM, Dr Nadia Lusis and Dr Romey Giles
In Australia, 40% of pregnancies are unintended. Uptake of reliable and cost-effective long-acting reversible contraception, such as intrauterine devices (IUDs) and implants, is lower in Australia compared to similarly developed countries, and early medical abortion can be difficult to access. Many factors impact uptake of or access to these services, including access to primary health care service providers who provide these services.
In this podcast we discuss the use of new teaching resources on contraceptive options, long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) and early medical abortion (EMA) to support teaching and implementation of best practice care.

AI Scribes in General Practice Training – Risks and Rewards - Dr Owen Bradfield
In this episode, we explore the rapid rise of AI scribes in Australian primary care, with around 20% of GPs now using them daily. These tools record consultations, transcribe them, and use AI to generate summarised medical records—helping to save time, improve accuracy, and reduce clinician burnout. While AI scribes offer promising solutions to workforce pressures, they also introduce important medicolegal considerations, especially for supervisors and registrars.

Furthermore, video-recorded consultations enable supervisors and educators to assess registrar performance with a level of detail that is not possible through traditional observation. This can result in more focused feedback and a deeper understanding of areas needing improvement.
This podcast discusses the medico-legal considerations, including patient consent, data protection, and confidentiality.

Rational test ordering - helping your registrar find the 'sweet spot' - Dr Simon Morgan
Investigations play a critical role in the diagnosis, monitoring and screening for disease in general practice. And the use of such tests is increasing both in Australia and internationally. While some of this increase is appropriate, a growing body of evidence suggests that non-rational testing is a significant problem. This is costly and problematic for GPs but also poses significant harm to patients.
