How to Stay in the Race - A Conversation with my Mentors

How to Stay in the Race - A Conversation with my Mentors

Hello everyone!

Welcome again, to each of you.

In this my fourth episode, I have 3 very special guests with me today, I am honored to call them my mentors.

They are wives, mothers, sisters, aunts, leaders, entrepreneurs, and mentors – not to just me, but they all still manage to make me feel like I’m their only mentee.

Today’s session is entitled: How to Stay in the Race: A Conversation with my Mentors

When I think of mentors, I think of someone who listens, a no judgment zone.  A mentor is someone who knows you well and adds value to you.  They want to see you do well; they answer when you call and they give you access to their network.

Listen in on this conversation as I share my mentors' lessons learned with you.

Dr. Elaine W. Bryant - entrepreneur and former County Commissioner

Dianne Williams-Cox - City Commissioner and community advocate

Iranetta Rayborn Wright - Deputy Superintendent of Schools and Educational Leader

How to Communicate More Effectively With Those Around Me

How to Communicate More Effectively With Those Around Me

A few years ago, a friend recommended I read the book, Nice Girls Don’t Get the Corner Office. At the time, I had been participating in a mastermind with a diverse group of women. As we exchanged stories throughout the session, the friend heard me say something that reminded her of the book. Looking back, it was probably one of those situations where I undersold myself or sounded uncertain, or maybe even asked a question when I should have been making a statement.

Has this ever happened to you before? Have you said something, but the way it sounded or the way it came off wasn’t exactly like you intended?

It has for me more times than I’d like to admit. Quite frankly in the past there were times when I was not even aware that what I was saying was not landing with my intended purpose.

How we’re wired affects our behavior, our way of thinking, and our communication style. There’s so much to unpack in just this piece alone. Our wiring is comprised of heredity, environment, and situations. Embedded in this is societal norms that complicate our delivery and interaction with each other. This plays out in our relationships – at work, home, and with our circle of friends.

In this, my second episode, I am going to be talking to you about how what we say does not always come across in the way we intend. I’ve done extensive study of human behavior, how we are wired, and how that impacts the way we communicate. Even with all that I’ve studied, I am continuously learning more and more about predictable behavior and ways to improve the effectiveness of my interaction with others.

So, are you ready?

Let’s dig in.

The More You Grow, The More You Know

The More You Grow, The More You Know

In my introductory segment, I'm going to be talking to you about growth - I'll give you my definition, share a bit of my growth journey, I'll give you some tips, and ultimately challenge you to commit to being a part of the growth movement with me.

As I've gotten older, I've gained a new perspective on what it means to grow. Today, I intend to compare and contrast my old way of thinking about growth.  I'm going to introduce you to a process that will help you become more intentional about growth.  How's that sound.

My hope is that you will gain the courage and boldness to dream sooner, dream bigger - dream more boldly and more confidently the dream that you have dared to dream.  Fully believing that you have the power inside of you to make it come true.

The more you grow, the more you know.
