Mike Dudas, Technical Wreck Diver
Lifelong wreck diver Mike Dudas shares the history of the Andrea Doria on the 70th anniversary of the Italian ocean liner’s tragic sinking. Often called the “Mount Everest of scuba diving,” the Doria has shaped the course of technical and wreck diving from its resting place in 240 feet of seawater off the northeastern United States.
With family roots in the storied Northeast wreck diving community, Mike reflects on the generations of divers who’ve explored the legendary wreck. His father participated in the first recreational Andrea Doria expedition in 1966, and his mother became the first woman to dive it in 1967.
The conversation covers how decades of structural deterioration, combined with advances in equipment and safety practices, have changed how divers experience the Doria.
