theBridgeS2E2: Shake, Settle, and Self-Regulate: DIY Snow Globes

In this episode of The Bridge Podcast, Anna and Ashley get hands-on with a simple yet powerful sensory activity—creating DIY snow globes!

This creative project offers more than just winter-themed fun. DIY snow globes provide calming visual focus through swirling glitter, soothing tactile input through shaking, and meaningful opportunities to support self-regulation. Watching the glitter slowly settle can help children pause, breathe, and reset, making snow globes a helpful tool for managing anxiety, improving focus, and easing transitions or breaks.

As children create their own snow globes, they also strengthen fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and creativity. Whether used as a calming visual timer, a sensory break, or a moment of mindfulness, this activity is both engaging and therapeutic.

Supplies Needed:

  • Plastic or glass jar

  • Hot glue

  • Clear Elmer’s glue

  • Distilled water

  • Glitter

  • Sequins

  • Small figure

Shake it for a mesmerizing effect, watch it settle for calm, and enjoy a creative way to build regulation and relaxation—one snow globe at a time.
